Let's summarize and, at the same time, clear a couple of things up here:
(1) This guy is an idiot. He is an idiot who thinks the world operates differently for him compared to the rest of us. He's an ultra-rich moron who's completely out of touch with the real world. He is going to pay for this somehow. It's time to pay the piper.
(2) In addition to his out-of-court settlement with Elgin Baylor, this is not a new allegation against this guy, which includes such things as giving preference to Koreans and refusing to rent his apartments to black people. Read what's on teh Interwebs. He has a long history of "plantation style" attitudes, including an exchange with Rollie Massimino that so disgusted Massimino that he refused to take the Clippers job. That makes Sterling a racist idiot.
(3) This V. Stiviano is an opportunistic, gold-digging "playette" who knew exactly what she was doing. She was sued by Sterling's wife - not ex-wife - his wife in March of this year for purportedly opportunistically taking advantage of Sterling. by receiving cars, cash, and other gifts and such. She purportedly has a history of doing such things with other men. Yet, he still continued to date her? That makes him a stupid, racist idiot.
Other than that, this comes down to whether or not you believe hate speech is still free speech. Of course, the NBA as a league, and therefore a private organization, does not have to endorse this form of free/hate speech because it potentially interferes with the mission of the NBA.
He's not going to come away from this unscathed. Oh, he's still be worth more than $1B, but it's going to tarnish his public image more than it already has been. Now, I just wonder if he's going to continue to date Ms. Stiviano, who's mixed-race herself.
This is such an uplifting, heartwarming story, no?

I don't think so. The NBA does not have an anti-collusion clause.
It probably would violate individual contracts, but then again, what are the teams going to say? "We are going to sue you for refusing to play for the racist owner"?
I'm sure that's the publicity the NBA wants.
No, this little "civil disobedience" would not be good for the league, and wouldn't harm the players at all.

No one has suggested any government action against him, so no one is suggesting he is not free to say it.
However, that does not stop it from being completely opposite of what the NBA wants, and their league is completely within their rights to sanction him however they want.
No one has a right to own an NBA basketball team.
