Dogs that know

I suspected that he could simply hear my car, and was familiar with it's sound. I was driving a ratty old Maverick at the time.
My suspicions were confirmed when I finally broke down and bought a new muffler and exhaust system for the car.
The dog was completely surprised for several days. Didn't take him long, however; he soon became familiar with the new sounds and resumed his "prescient" habits.

Yup! When I was in high school one of the family cars was a 1964 Chevy Impala that was a real rattle-trap.

The family dog loved to ride in the car. We noticed that the dog could hear that car coming from several blocks away.

It never even occurred to me to ascribe this to the dog being psychic. I don't know if that was because I was a good skeptic, or because I knew how stupid this particular dog was. ;)

My dog is scared almost crapless from storms. She tries to crawl into tiny spaces and hide.
This has been getting progressively worse over the years, and lately, she starts the fearful behaviour long before we notice any stormy weather.

So far, she's always correct.

I must assume that she senses barometric pressure changes.

Any others here notice such weather forecasting ability in their dogs?

I can't find it now, but I read an online news report, about the Austia imprisonment case, about one of the building's tenants. He had rooms directly above the cellar where the children were imprisoned and told reporters that his dog was frequently disturbed and restless at night, and that it took an instant dislike to Fritzl. Now if only this dog had been telepathic.....
Sheldrake and the others are just wasting their time trying to prove that dogs might know when their owners are arriving home. If animal-human telepathy existed, we would know all about it. Because people would actually be making use of it.

Dogs would make use of it. It would be a tremendous evolutionary advantage if even a minuscule ability to read someone's mind existed.

If dogs could read our minds, we wouldn't have to train guide dogs. They would simply be able to tell what we wanted to do.

Humans would make use of it too. How much easier to just 'think' at the dog and get it to round up the sheep etc! Instead, you have to spend a lot of time getting the dog to understand what crazy thing you want it to do. To a predator like a dog, how nutty it must seem to go after the sheep and not kill them, and have that be the right thing. It would be AWESOME if dogs were telepathic. I think people would have known about it for a very long time, if they actually were.

Alas. They are not. They may have a more sensitive sense of smell, better hearing etc but they are not telepathic.

Yes, after a few years of barking at thunder, Mollie would bark when she saw lightning.

"Dr. Pavlov, call your service."

Why are Sheldrake et al so fixated on their one 'proof' of dog telepathy - bored dogs sitting at home guessing when their owners will turn up?
Hell, those old Lassie movies showed how dogs can prove their telepathy. So why don't they look for the dogs who run home and tell their owners about all the trapped children they've found?
Lassie was neurotic and this proves it.
