Does the soul exist?

My opinion.

42Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[f]"
43Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
49I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."
The Ascension
50When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.

The Resurrection Body
35But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" 36How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.
42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"[e]; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. 48As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. 49And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we[f] bear the likeness of the man from heaven.
50I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."[g]
55"Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?"[h] 56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

21who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Then there's this,
42Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[f]"
43Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
49I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

There's more lots more.
Brother I don't know about you but I have soul !!!!
There's more lots more...:)

Here again:
24Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

42And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comes into thy kingdom.
43And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

I should have bolded everything oh well....

Depends on how you define a soul...

As a supernatural or spiritual body, I'd say that it's virtually certain the answer is no.

However if you meant the force of consciousness, you could argue that the brain, which produces consciousness is the soul, or at least the hardware for the soul, with the mind (the byproduct of the brain) being the soul. However it obviously would not be an immortal one as your brain only lasts so long, and you can lose consciousness while being alive...

You will experiance it yourself no matter what you think.

Look up on here proof of an after life done by me.
But you'll,,, well what ever. :)

This is the difference between what I believe and what the J.W.s believe.

The scriptures are clear on this.

I don’t let anyone group stop me from seeking the truth.

So what's your proof of the afterlife?

why are you right and everyone else is wrong? Just because your religion is 2,000 years old?

How can a question be meaningful in reference to a false definition of a thing?

We're not using a false definition, we're using the definition of soul most used by people we know. That may differ from the Biblical definition you gave earlier, but I don't know of anyone who believes in a "soul" who believes in that version.

Just out of interest, if there is no Biblical justification for a spirit soul, what part of the person do Christians believe goes to Heaven?

Even it there were a non-physical "soul" it sounds to me like just another layer of self-deception. You are no more the soul (if it exists) than you are the body, or the thoughts. If you can experience this soul, as you claim, then ergo it is not you. So I don't really see how deluding yourself on a non-physical realm is any better than deluding yourself on a material level. Worse, if anything.

I don't know what radrook believes, but the Jehovah's Witnesses, who are the only ones I am aware of who believe the same thing, believe that nothing goes to heaven, but that people will be resurrected at the return of Christ to live in some earth paradise.

Most Christians still believe in an immortal ethereal soul, though.

Not seeking debate on this but since you asked here is the brief answer::

The individual's personality gifted with a new spirit body

BTW
Most professed Christians believe in the invisible immortal soul as being discussed on this forum. So the above view is presently held by a minority.

I wish edge could simply state his beliefs instead of bombarding us with ambiguous biblical quotations. The way I interpret those passages is that at the end of time everyone who lived will be reconstructed in non-physical forms, presumably with accurate reconstructions of their brains as well. There's no mention of souls or reason to believe they exist given in those passages.

It reminds me of the science-fiction concept that some advanced race in the future may find a way to look back into the past and bring everyone who ever lived back to life, either physically or in virtual reality (depending on the author). In this context, immortal souls don't need to exist in order to have an afterlife.

Been there.

It is truth!

Would you mind qualifying what you mean by this? It seems a bit contradictory that you would enter a discussion on the soul, claiming to have proof, but when asked why you believe it's true, you just shrug and tell people that they have to "experiance" it for themselves. Are you saying that this is simply a personal belief based on personal experiences? If so then why not just admit that your belief in a soul applies only to you and no one else?

Wow! A new religion -Scientolomormanism. L. Ron meets Joseph Smith , the Angel Moron(i) and Xenu. Now we need some Daleks.

This pretty much says it all by Jesus himself.

43And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Jesus knew the new covent was to take place and that changed eveything, no sleeping.
What was preached in the O.T. ended.

That sleeping stuff ended:

35And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

Judgment is done in the spirit, self-judgment first then a second judgment for the unredeemed.
The ones in darkness, the ones that sleep, may be the unredeemed.
This is exactly what the medical field tells us about N.D.Es.

If so then why not just admit that your belief in a soul applies only to you and no one else?

Sorry but that's not what is written we all are more.
You telling me you don't understand still?

Nice story. Remind me why you think this is true again?

That's right, I still don't understand. I don't understand how your professed faith in an old book should mean it is actually true. I love fiction, but I generally don't confuse it with reality. Of course, the books usually admit they are fiction, too.

There's more info about it on wikipedia (look up "Omega Point").

It always gets me thinking of Philip José Farmer's "Riverworld" saga, where all souls are mass produced by machines built by an ancient race of aliens so they can resurrect the dead. I wonder if the Bible could be considered as an ancient form of science fiction?
