Should we shut the hypothetical street corner porn booth

We can go with an analogy here. Every time the link between violence in movies and games and real world violence has been studied, there has been found to be no link at all. The violence that people see in movies, on TV, and in video games does not translate into real world violence - in fact, some studies have shown that people who partake in violent movies are less violent in real life, though I should say that this is not universal. At most, some studies link violence in games and media to aggressive and antisocial behaviour, but not violent behaviour.

So why should sex be any different from that? Why are people acting out the sex that they see in the media but not the violence? I put it to you that by and large they are not, and this whole argument is based in moralistic conservative thinking that attaches shame and guilt to sexual acts.
As has been said many, many times already - porn involves real sex. Many young people see it as realistic (53% of boys and 39% of girls in the UK) and a significant minority say that it has given them ideas to try out.
We have had the porn-is-just-made-up argument before, but the thing about porn is that some of it is just made up, like in the movies. It's fairly obvious that it isn't an actual pool guy, pizza delivery guy, a policeman or a firefighter. However, some of it is very real, e.g. the sexual intercourse and oral sex is real – very much unlike the movies (with few exceptions like some of the Trier films)............

Correct. My bias is towards a healthy and active sex life with consenting partners done legally and with respect.
Porn is skewing society away from what you say you are aiming for - especially among the young. There is no other explanation for why children have become the majority perpetrators of child sex abuse. What else explains sexting? They see we have normalised porn and that we have presented it to them freely and they copy us. It's that simple.

Society's legacy...kids sending dick picks.

According to your ideologically biased sources.

That's sex. The context of the bias was in terms of porn not sex.
Porn can be a part of a healthy and active sex life.

It's not. Anyone telling you "it's that simple" is either egregiously mistaken or has an agenda.

Why are children the majority perpetrators of child sex abuse? Because children hang out with children more than they hang out with adults! Children talk with children, children spend time texting with children, children start sexually maturing before the age at which society has deemed it appropriate to act in a sexual manner, but still at a time when they are spending the majority of their free time with their peers and not their elders.

Children, actually early to mid-teenagers, have always been on a certain level sexually inappropriate with one another. For some reason someone has suddenly noticed and has held it up as a "danger to society" or whatever.

No, it's not that simple. But the argument you are presenting is simplistic and ideology-driven.

And so it goes on - excuses for an industry that shows anything-goes sex to young kids. An utter disgrace.

Every street corner has a automated porn vendor. There's a sign saying 'over eighteens only' but anyone entering can do so safe in the knowledge that they will be alone and unobserved. It is known that children regularly go there.

Should we shut it down - yea or nay?

Interesting piece.
On the one hand I'm sympathetic; on the other I was also catcalled most around that age and I wasn't in any uniform.

Let's campaign against 'sexy' halloween costumes next. And get Amy Pond out of those kiss-o-gram outfits! Sexualising all those professions. SMH.

But catcalling schoolgirls is, imo, an issue independent of porn. I am not aware of a time in history where gross guys did not catcall schoolgirls. Cue Withnail insisting they love it, in 1969.

Dude, just put away the whole "what about the children" bit - you've already admitted that you find porn to be gross and want to see it banned full stop, so clearly bringing up children is you just trying to give your histrionics some undeserved moral gravitas.

Or just answer the question.
I'm not happy that porn is being shown to youngsters; I'm assuming most people share that view.

Same here, and we didn't have school uniforms. I hated it, by the way.

Thankfully these days kids in the Uk are protected even if they have bad parents.
It's bad parenting to enable children their UNCRC right to mass media?
The framing is revealing: rights of the adults first.

No child in the UK is protected. Some will be safer...ish.
