The Democrats can only hope the Tea Party is just as effective across the country. I kind of doubt it though I think O'Donnell is unique. (Hopefully).

Honestly, folks thinking that clips of her talking about dabbling in 'witchcraft' are going to sink her are suffering confirmation bias. She's got plenty about her that's easily criticized, but her silly statements on Maher's show aren't worth anything politically (and could backfire).

O'Donnell is a True Believer, and I'm fairly certain it's that plus her boilerplate "Constitution... patriot... too much government" mantras are pretty much the only things that draw her supporters to her, but honestly I think she should be the TP spokesmodel instead of Palin. Palin is vindictive, bitter, and hypocritical. O'Donnell has been downright pleasant by comparison, doesn't seem to speak with this constant bitter tone underneath (though she does seem to something going on that's off-kilter), and while she apparently has had a few instances of exaggerating her CV she really does seem like she's trying really hard to be that icon of Ayn Rand, Barry Goldwater, Milton Friedman conservatism that appears to be at the heart of the Tea Party talking points (at least when folks are trying to justify the TP platform of "I AM ANGRY AT THE GOVERNMENT"). I ain't saying that she'd be effective for the Tea Party, but she'd be a lot more accurate a representation for them than their hundred-thousand-dollar-a-speaking-engagement, high-maintenance wink machine currently is for them.

That would have been true a few years ago -- before McCain released the Cracken. Now, there's so much stupid/crazy in the air that it's mind boggling.

While I wasn't one of them, I saw many comments from people thinking Palin was well overdrawn on her 15 minutes and would whither after the election. Far from it, she has become the mold for "straight talken" folksy idiots running for office.

Thing is, there's also plenty of other issues to point to, starting with her ethics:
She lies on her resume.
She uses campaign donations for personal use.
She's never, as far as I can tell, had a real job.
She claims to be a pro-life Christian, but she hates people with HIV/AIDS and doesn't want the government to save them from dying (my own biggest issue with her).

Yep. Then Sarah Palin came to her rescue, convincing a lot of the Republican Right that O'Donnell was their Joan of Arc. Even if those RR's stay convinced, who's she going to convince this time?
