Merged DDWFTTW in a “Real” Wind

And the board says you are wrong.

I would like to hear you say that is the same as the board traveling at 100mph.

Boards can't talk.

The second quoted sentence is utterly incoherent, even if a talking board said it.

I, however, can talk and I say you were wrong when you stated the wind tunnel portion of the Windshear facility was "proposed" rather than operational, and you did not acknowledge your error when it was pointed out.

I also claim my credibility exceeds yours, and exceeds (by a lesser degree) that of a putative talking board, but I'll let readers decide.

Respectfully,
Myriad

So it's a windtunnel with rolling road. Where is the wind tunnel on the TM?
Oh, it only "works" at WS. It is not a windtunnel, wind testing device of any sort, but a belt driven toy.

If you say the that the car on the belt is the same as one on the road, then that applies to the board too. Obvious nonsense, that exposes the voodoo of the TM.

god bless us all, or not, depending on your theism or lack thereof.

There are many who do not agree that the TM is valid. I could not find one engineering student to agree.
They had differing opinions about the stabilizing mechanism, but none agreed it had anything to do with a cart in the wind
and were bemused by the suggestion.

There is no "brainteaser" or any special relative motion. In urban environments, buildings can produce gusts because of obstruction.
They have been recorded as a change of 20m/s in one second. Does the ground in that street move faster the other way?
Total nonsense, to support unqualified cranky claims.

but I don't see any structure that could take advantage of said tacking and he has never explained how the BB could tack more efficiently than any other sail cart traveling so close to DDW.
That's right. You don't see it. Just like you don't see the motion of the TM cart, the tells every competent engineer or student what is really happening, Doctor.
Nor the way the rotor slows that says it produces little power, or the chips that beat I Ratant's cart, or the erratic behaviour of the one and only wind test of the little cart as the gusty wind is heard in the microphone etc etc
etc etc.

I have answered your question: the energy source is exactly the same in the second frame as it was in the first frame, the wind.

If by "wind" you mean "the relative motion between air and ground", then we can always say that the wind is producing the energy to move the cart. But that doesn't answer the question of what is actually transferring kinetic energy to the cart.

Apart from the sail cart, there are only two other things in the system: the air and the ground. If we choose a frame of reference in which the air is at rest, then the air has no kinetic energy. In this frame, what is transferring kinetic energy to the cart?

Humber "I got nothing!" Still

Weight = m*g

"Neutral buoyancy is a condition in which a physical body's mass equals the mass it displaces in a surrounding medium. This offsets the force of gravity that would otherwise cause the object to sink. An object that has neutral buoyancy will neither sink nor rise."

Sure you do...sure you need to, in case I take yours apart.

You are not serious that you don't understand those are equivalent definitions are you.

It wasn't me the said how much I know about circuits.

"You got nothing" still!

If that is your best, I'm done!

Then it has PE, doesn't it? Think that a "weight" 1m of the ground has the same PE as on 10m off the ground?
More exposure.

Then don't post challenges you can't live up to, that you expected I would not be able to. EEwindgrins.

No, that's mistake. If you are in a car, you may say the car has no KE relative to you, but not that it has no KE.
The wind is quite independent of the ground, and the KE is transferred between the wind and the cart. That is all there is to it.

You got it!

I have no business being here, as some may have noticed.
My background is chemistry, not mechanical engineering.
Yet, I have drifted, due to boredom, or interest in mechanical engineering stuff.
I dig building stuff. I gave up on building molecules about the time when some of the molecules became really interesting, and illegal.

hence, i seek a synopsis of the overall argument here:

Forgive me for not following every post in this debate.

To reduce it to humber vs spork:

Is the main bitch about the definition of "directly" in the ddwfttw?
Or is it more than that?

As in, spork and JB bribed judges?
The videos were fake?
Does humber allow that the cart did achieve speeds faster than the wind?
But they cheated, because the wind changed direction? hence, not 'directly'?

Or is it more than that?

Color me confused about this.

Did spork and "company" simply lie, and create bogus footage?
Or is humber's objection mostly about the variation of the wind in the test runs?

As far as I can tell, the only reason that this thread goes on and on is because of humber's objections.
And now, there are implications that the new kid in town is a sock-puppet of ancient objection humanoids.

I have brought up several obscure metaphors to explain some of the subtle (non-intuitive) aspects of this understanding.

I remain confused. Not about the results. Not about the energy to be tapped between these frames of reference.

My confusion lies elsewhere.

But as mentioned, I'm no mechanical engineer.
Even if I have built some seriously strange mechanical devices myself, even when I should have been cleaning the kitchen.

Please help me, friends.

You are not confused. You pretty much summed it up!

You are still not making sense.

Not when anytime it moves, its replaced by an equal weight that comes from the same place it moves to!

I'd rather think that anytime I shoot my mouth off about how smart I am in a subject, I could demonstrate basic competence. This was not my issue. It was yours.

As usual, in both regards, "You got Nothing!"

To be perfectly honest, looking back on your various posts for the past three years. This seems to be your story, overall.

The force remains m*g. The static pressure of the air, provides an opposing force. It is Archimedes. A ship does not sink or rise, but if a wave raises it, the ship gains PE, and maybe enough to break it when the wave subsides.

Lift the balloon, and it will gain PE. Your claim is of magic. An NB weather balloon may carry 100gr of instruments, and that mass gains PE with height, and so does the rest of the balloon.

And you posted that it was "first year material " and so forth. So much you know.

To be perfectly honest,
Which usually precedes a lie....

...or vague insult.

Are you confusing Neutrally Buoyant with Positively Buoyant? Really?

Last one Humber. Just so you may get a clue. Nobody wants weather balloons to be Neutrally Buoyant. They want them to be positively buoyant. That is so they will rise and take the instruments up into the atmosphere.

Have you really being confusing these two all this time?

Now you really have shown that you think balloons have "ballooniness",
and a special property of "NBness"

I see, from your reasoning, that you were wise to retract your boastful electronics question. I advise that you don't try that again.
And do make it the last one. I would say I am embarrassed for you, but to be honest, not at all.

Just so you are clear. I haven't retracted it.

And now I think I will spend the next few days rolling on the floor, laughing at your idea that NB balloons lift loads.!

Adios.
