Crystal Skulls on Sci-Fi

Being somewhat of a rock hound, I have had my hands of LOTS of crystals, even a few large quartz ones. They are VERY hard and resist almost any attempt at carving. I even have a couple of diamond encrusted cutting heads, that do very little in the way of debris removal.

My point in asking when the original skull was presented to the public is that such cutters were rare even 20 years ago. 50 years ago, construction of a quartz crystal skull would have been difficult, time consuming, and expensive, although not impossible.

That said, crystal grown in a zero G environment have VERY different formation structures than their terresterial cousins.

IF this original skull was presented to the public 50+ years ago, AND it shows signs of zero G formations, then at least the possibility remains 'open' that it may not be by our hands...

The guy with the robot head on the moon was priceless. He would state something like, "suppose the guys at area 51 had the robots head, that is proof that the skulls are real and were made by martians." Shame on the people who made this for letting someone just make up their own evidence. It was so poorly researched and executed.

other High(low?) Lights
- Battle star gallactica being used as reference material
- The CGI moon bases
- the photos of the skull that show aliens
- The entire scene where they were diving in a massive bay with out grids or anything to identify a search area.
- All the scenes of Hoagland turning in circles with the out stretched skull.

Way to go scifi channel! I hope the Indiana Jones movie will be better.

The more we talk about it, the more I think it was meant to be a joke. As far as carving quartz is hard, I don't know, but there are like 49 hits for "quartz crystal skull" on ebay and about 350 hits for "carved quartz" without even checking the item description. I have dice and spheres carved from quartz, about 20 pieces all together. Someone is carving the hell out of quartz.

Robert,

I sent you an email concerning this.

The crystal skulls, not grandma having a penis :o

Ah, but rather than coming to the conclusion that the skull was made more recently with modern tools they came to the conclusion that ancient people had technology from aliens. At times I almost thought this was a parody of documentaries. The "let's search for skulls for ten minutes, then give up and feel disappointed" moments were laughable as was the token gesture of giving a replica to that guide so they would "always be connected."

They also said the skull was made out of the same thing computer chips were made from!! And that if we could store tons of data in a computer chip then think of how much data this huge skull could hold!!! They even mentioned something like "the quartz chips in the computer" like there are actual crystals in the memory chips.

I liked the guy who claimed they found the head of a robot on the moon and that it was related to the skulls somehow. Then, to top himself, he claimed they got the head to talk at area 51.

Anyway, if this was supposed to be serious it has to be the worst documentary ever made, if it was supposed to be parody then they should have added more comedy, like have that guy's tupee blow off or something.

OK, apparently somehow I managed to luck into the only semi-sensible 5 minutes in the whole program. :D

Glad I didn't waste any more time on it.

Yes, I know. My apologies to adoptees. I was was in a hurry and worded this wrongly.
What I meant was that being adopted could have given her a very strong psychological reason to think that the man who "rescued" her and gave her a home was a wonderful person who could do no wrong.

Doesn't seem to have affected my daughter or my son this way.

ETA: Dammit.

Carving quartz is hard ? Where did you take this ? Diamond Mohs index is 10 and we polish/shape cut them in other form, even 50 years ago or longer. Quartz has got a Mohs index of 7 (durability) and even lower depending on constitution. Quartz is certain carvable, and msot probably in any form you like even 50 or 100 years ago.

ETA: also googling show that there are a lot of instrument to smooth/polish quartz, and none of them seems to be beyond the technical of earlier *century* as far as I can tell, since all they mostly use is a polishing wheel and similar lapidary instruments.

How old was she when she was adopted? Was she in foster care before (meaning was she mistreated and then 'saved', so to speak)? If she was young when the adoption took place then it probably isn't a factor (speaking as an adoptee and one who has known several). I know you've already apologized but imagine if had replaced 'adopted' with 'black' or 'Jewish'. That statement reached off the page and slapped me in the face a bit.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have some crop circles to be making for my papa.

I apologise AGAIN. I wasn't making a generalisation about all adoptees - just putting forward one possible reason why this particular woman spent her life defending the proven liar who was her adopted father, and repeating his lies.
Sigh.

Of course, the more likely reason is that there was money in it.
