Creepy

It should be noted also, DR (if I may interject) that the whole "Need to Know" principle is currently undergoing revision per the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, as the events of 9/11 pointed out the major deficiency in sharing information across the IC. Strictly speaking, it is still "Need to Know", it's just that there's an element of "Need to Share" tucked in there as well. The current DNI is trying very hard to ensure that the entire IC can work together to share their information, unlike before 9/11 when the sixteen main intel agencies were very territorial regarding the information they received and analyzed. I'm working within the IC right now and I can see the changes taking effect, and I for one think it's working reasonably well.

Damn - Darth beat me to it.

OldSchool, it is obvious you have never held a clearance. Do you believe the charter says that anyone that has access to classified information is a member of the CIA?

Yes. Google the charter or go to the library and read it for yourself. I spent two years writing a variety of reports for a variety classes relating to the CIA. You may have a different interpretation of the document, however only a select few members of congress receive reports from the CIA. These select few, from what I've read, are considered members of the CIA.

Wow, what a waste of educational dollars.

So, would they still be members of the CIA even if they were defeated in an election? How is the replacement congresscritter sworn into the CIA? Is there a secret ceremony involving skulls, candles, paddles and Kevin Bacon? (“Thank you sir, may I have another?”)

Yes. Google the charter

This, the National Security Act of 1947

http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode50/usc_sup_01_50_10_15.html

If so then what part of it backs your interpretation that any member of Congress receiving CIA reports is considered a member of the CIA?

Perhaps the part that outlines penalties for breaching the Act?

Really, you have been asked a very straightforward question concerning a contention you made. So far you refuse to show any supporting docuementation for that contention. Will you retify that or just attempt to bluster your way around actually answering the question?

That means Darth, Sabrina, and myself are members of the CIA?

I think your interpretation is, to be kind, "unique". Can you cite which section of the NSA of 1947 mentions this?

I got the impression that Edwards just didn't want to reveal any of his conversation with Tenet before they publicly came out and accused anyone. If he had answered Walters she would have kept pressing and he probably didn't feel at liberty to discuss any of the specifics at the time.

As far as I know, I'm not a CIA member. :D I'm a 35D in the military reserves and I work for a private contracting firm that does contracts throughout the US Intelligence Community, so I come from the unique perspective of both the private sector and the government sector.

It was news to me also. I'll bet that Darth doesn't know he's a member too. And where's that paycheck? Maybe we should form a union - CIA members that don't know they are in the CIA. :)

I used to have a security clearance as well. Am I an unwitting agent of the CIA? (Note: I already know I'm witless, so no snide comments about that!)

Wow I agree with you.

Edwards is creepy, but not for this reason.

Has OldSchool left the building? Or did English composition class start up and take him away?

I love his "I already did the research back in college therefore I don't have to prove I found out what I did to you" attitude.

CIA's is responsible for reporting too curtain members of congress.

I see Old School knows his CIA. Any congressman percieved as having links to Iron Curtain countries was always referred to inside the CIA as being "too curtain".

The interview did take place on the night of 911. He's on the intelligence committee and its extremely creepy he dodged the question, " Are we sure it's Foreigners".

And so on...

It would seem that OldSchool is stating that you would be considered unpaid members of the CIA, not actual employees. Sort of volunteer CIA personel I suppose, much like volunteer fire fighters.

I don't work for the CIA (thank God) although I do believe my employer company has a contract or two with them. I'm not on them, however.
