With regards to SezMe's comments on Ian's 'analysis' of Dr A:
If that is a serious attempt by either of you to attempt to comment on someone's personality then I am slightly in awe of your simplicity of thought.

(snip)

And SezMe ought to try having more of his own opinion rather than just latching onto an insult of someone by another poster.
Wow!

I expressed my own opinion by making a HUGE tongue-in-cheek response to the analysis of Dr. A. I even added a silly comment about HPathy to make sure the satire was evident. Sorry it went completely over your head.

Here the talk is about talking to dead people and other such nonsense and it's still all polite.

I would say the topics demands some "stiff upper lip".

That's really odd. Yesterday I read that completely differently.

Today it seems quite obvious how it was meant.

Sorry, my bad.:(

DON'T SAY SORRY!

You know the rules; this needs a 14 page long dissection of every single letter in Sezme’s post and the creation of a semantic playground to explain why Sezme was wrong and you were right, only to be ended when you next attempt to cross the road using a zebra crossing.

In my usual manner, I'll enter late and make a comment on something 14 posts up or so (that's the beautiful thing about the internet: You can't see people's incredulous stares):

On II's humor: It is funny, but I have always seen his humor as one of his truely redeeming qualities. Just when you think he is a total ass, he ends a post with some wry remark that puts a smile on your face.

But, that's just me...

Hee hee. Now who does that remind me of?

I'm thinking of the word 'demand' for some reason...

I've got to second MRC_Hans on this one--I have battled Ian here (not recently, but quite frequently in the past) and I just love his sense of humour. Most recently, he strung me along on something, and I only realized it 3/4 through a long rant in return...I left the rant up, and noted the point where I realized that he had been pulling my leg. (No, I am not going to look for it and post it here, I have too many posts.)

Crikey - this IS a can a worms I opened. Sorry! Mind you, it's still a beacon of civility compared to somewhere like alt.magic...

Well, above all, we love to discuss, hehe.

Otherwise, I tend to agree with you. Skeptic forums generally have a reasonable tone. I would like to think that it is because skeptics are generally reasonable people, but more likely the constant risk of being called to prove it generally discourages people from calling somebody an idiot without a good reason.

There you go. Dr. Adequate and Interesting Ian are the official exemplars of good behavior. :D
Ah, let me explain. So long as a believer wishes to discuss the paranormal, then I will listen with interest and ask the other posters for fair play. (As in the thread they're referring to, where carolan1000 told us a most interesting ghost story). Sweetness and light, that's the motto. This is evidently why the people on HP approved of me. And if the rest of you had listened to me, they'd like the lot of us. So what turns Dr Adequate into Mr Hyde?

If they refuse to discuss the paranormal, and start, instead, inventing attitudes, opinions, and statements for me in particular, or sceptics in general --- what you might call the argumentum ad hominem stramenti --- then I will point out the first time that they are wrong, and the second and subsequent times that they are lying. Someone should, as lying in this way is the world's least adequate form of argument --- and I am pledged to defend Adequacy against its enemies.
