When does she call herself a journalist? I agree, she's a pundit, an editorialist, not a reporter. She doesn't unearth new information, which is what a reporter does; she takes information that someone else has provided, and gives her opinions on them.
Exactly my point. And let's face it, if you agree with her politics, you're much more likely to find her work funny, perceptive and right on the money. If you don't, since it is so opinion based, it's unlikely you'll share the same affinity.
And of course, theres nothing Coulter says that can be countered with an effective rebuttal.
The power that people like her get (both on the left and right) is that their choir members are always quick to jump up and applaud "Oh yes, that is so true, so true." But it's only true because that's what her flock wants to hear. The same goes for Michael Moore and Mark Morford. (and Molly Ivins, who up until now I was unfamiliar with)
Actually, I think the best leftie equivalent of Coulter is Mollie Ivins - at once funny and venomous.
It's refreshing to hear someone with a conservative bent actually admit that there is a liberal commentator out there who isn't immediately dismissed as being a left wing loon. And thank you for introducing me to her column. I'm man enough to admit that my liberal bent makes me more likely to enjoy Ivins column than Coulter's. Even if that means I'm just one of the flock!
