Could Obama have beaten Trump?

2012 | Obama / Biden | 65,915,795 | Romney / Ryan | 60,933,504
2016 | Clinton / Kane | 65,853,625 | Trump / Pence | 62,985,106
Change | Democratic | -62,170 | Republican | +2,051,602

P. S. Even funnier, the idea that Democratic voters went green! :D

This was already addressed in post 18.

Maybe Chelsea?

I too wonder if Chelsea will pick up the gauntlet. She's never shown much interest in elected public office but maybe mom and dad will motivate her. I'd say we'll have a pretty good idea of her intentions in the next year or so as she'd most probably go for a House, or less likely a Senate, seat in the November 2018. With her parents getting a little long in the tooth and maybe not of the greatest of health she'd have to commit sooner than later if she was looking for their support.

What cause or accomplishment is Chelsea identified with, other than marrying a rich investment banker with his own shady history? In public appearances promoting her mother, Chelsea demonstrated a real brittleness that would get her smacked down hard in any entry-level election campaign. The Clinton era is over. The Clintons aren't the Kennedys, or even the Bushes. Down the road maybe a Democratic administration will make her ambassador to Portugal or some other place that doesn't matter much.

Sanders would have been immolated by the GOP. Trump would have come off looking like General MacArthur standing up to the Communist Threat to take over the White House and the country.

I'm not sure that's true. It would have been a nasty campaign, but Sanders did better than Clinton among many blue-collar voters. That "socialist" thing didn't scare them. Sanders might have inoculated himself against some of the worst crap by selecting a general or a prominent moderate as his VP.
