If your political opponents are having a bit of a bad time, do you pile the pressure on them, or do you decide to raise a completely different subject that you have no influence over, and where your stance is unpopular with most of the voting public (including in your own party)? If you are Corbyn, you decide to say that you want power sharing between Britain and Argentina over the Falkland Islands.
Scoring an own goal doesn't even come close.
