It's interesting - PZ was once sane. It just goes to show that absolute power something or other.....

I wonder... I remember maybe four years ago my local Skeptics in the Pub invited him to be a guest speaker... my take on him boiled down to 'unstable.' I had slotted him into the "maybe he could go help another movement for awhile" bucket.

I felt he had a malfunctioning social filter; while that causes problems in proportion to the size of the audience, it is not caused by having an audience.

For me, the Gelatogate incident was the trigger that lead me to believe that the guy had problem with living in our society.

Gelatogate? I must have missed it.

I remember him nailing the host. While I agree "its just a biscuit", I wondered why someone would intentionally go out of their way to offend.

I mean, I have many catholics in my life, my wife is one, and I feel no compulsion to do something similar and say "see? its just a biscuit!".

I wonder what other baked goods he drives a nail through in his spare time? Seems like an odd pastime.

ETA: I just read up on Gelatogate. Is PZ freakin serious? I mean..... wow.

did anybody notice ceepolk in the comments?

wow that was an interesting thread to read.

ceepolk posted in that thread last year, not more recently.

Frankly, Exi5 is the only person I've ever heard declare that the word is inherently offensive.

Oh aye. Thought she was back for a moment. Shame. I think a few posters agreed with her but they were the minority.

It is blatantly ridiculous IMO.

Just seen this video of Rebecca Watson at skepticon. I think it more than highlights her blatant hypocrisy. Can't believe skepticon organisers where happy with this " talk". Shows how far from actual skepticism it has gone with jokers like this. Remind me never to attend. Any thoughts?

Yup "utterly pointless" does rather sum that up. And, it seems, Rebecca Watson is unaware that condoms are not 100% effective.

dont know what that means but thanks. here is the link again hopefully.

She really has a hateful edge about her, and did a good job straw manning the poor guy. Agree, little or no point to the story. Eight minutes of my life lost.

In her apparently true "godless perv" story, she picks up a great looking guy who she's happy is an ex-Mormon and takes him back to her apartment. When they are about to go all the way, the guy is reluctant to put on a condom. Rebecca fantasizes that the guy, being an ex-Mormon, believes he has super-sperm since he wants her also be on birth control. When he gives in and agrees to do it with the condom, she tells him to "get the **** out of my apartment." Apparently, the point to the story is how proud she was to have turned down sex with a great looking guy because of what she assumed he was thinking.

Actually I thought he agreed to wear a condom but wanted her to be on the pill as well for double protection. Also considering her view that all drunk sex is non consensual in surprised at her behavior. Can't win either way with her.

He did, but then she said it was okay without. He agreed, and she threw him out.

So, not only does Rebecca not know that condoms aren't 100% effective, but she is also unaware that it's possible to have naked sexy fun time with someone without having penetrative sex.

The crazy thing is that she won the negotiation. He gave in to her demand that they have sex with a condom only. At that point, sex was spurious to her conquest. Her ego was satisfied.

She fulfilled her obligation to tell a dirty "godless perv" story that dissed a religion.
