Content Warning: Spiders!

Jinx. Watched some of it last night and was going to post a warning today. Problem of course is the warning won't get to the right people being posted in this thread.

I've only seen a couple of publicity stills so far, but the friend looks like one of my first pets, only smaller.

I used to ride 'Hairy' to school, and he was a very comfortable and easy ride. (Thick velvety fur).

(For the humour impaired, the previous is complete ******** in the Australian Giant Killer Animals vein.)

I saw a few tiny scorpions back when I lived on a property. I had to turn over rocks to see them, but they were there.

When I lived in a forest full of damp Redwoods, they would show up as I brought wood in for the wood stove, or in the laundry, or the cats playing with them in the house. I have never yanked my pants off so quickly as when I saw one climbing up my jeans.

Yeah, the only time I've seen them wild is the rural NorCal property, surrounded by Redwoods. Small ~2in black ones... had to be aware around firewood piles and any stacked scrap wood.
Only spent a few years there late adulthood so no tales of careless kids and no real idea how bad their sting might be.
Still... creepy little fellows, and I once had a tarantula. [emoji1]

Scorpions are one of those creatures that must surely have originated off-world. Them, platypuses and cuttlefish. Proof of life on 3 different planets.

We are not alone.

Both scorpions and platypuses light up under UV, proof that they come from the same alien planet.

This came up in my YouTube recommendations.

A very brave lady.

The spider seems to be used to being handled and OK with it.

Australian Man Explains Why He Let A Spider The Size Of His Face Live In His House For A Year

Ah Australia, the land where even if it isn't trying to kill you there's a good chance it'll make you wish you were dead anyway.

Today in "let's just admit it's uninhabitable" news, an Australian man has shown off his house guest that's been living with him for a whole year. In a post to the Australian spider identification page on Facebook, Jake Gray said that he had been "watching her grow" over the last year, her being a gigantic huntsman spider.

Most of you who aren't Australian would probably decide it was time to move house if you saw this, and (rightly) assume that the house belongs to them now. Not Jake, who glanced up and clearly thought "housemate material". Jake wrote on Facebook that he even hopes "she will grow some more" as time goes on.

Yes, there's pictures.

This image no longer comes up at this link, or maybe the imgw tag doesn't work on the new forum, but here it is again:

Yes, I just reviewed the entire thread because come on! Spiders!

I think I posted at the time, but I recently watched a fight between a giant red back and a cute little jumping spider.

The cute little jumping spider ate the red back for lunch.

Those cute little guys are the spider kingdom's bull dogs.
