OK, that is very clear. Thanks.
I am going to have to think about that one a lot more. I didn't get the affect of "elevation of ignorance". I heard scare quotes around "smart people" meaning those who think they are smart...but you all know they really aren't.
I didn't grow up in that world, so I must defer to you on that, for the time being.![]()
Yes I agree with you that the audience, and Santorum think that they are the smart ones.
But who is it they are conflating with those that think they are smart but really aren't?
People with higher education.
That is the active promotion of ignorance. And, to Santorums apparent way of thinking, the more educated you are the more "smart" you are while really being less smart.
I have to disagree with you about Santorum, I don't think it is possible to underestimate him.
He is not even the sharpest spoon in the drawer, let alone knife.
Even the majority of rational actors here on the right roll their eyes in derision at him.
The mistake to avoid is overestimating his core audience.
The conflation of higher education with insulting nicknames and derision is a good way to promote the future as depicted in Idiocracy.
