Conservatives? What did Reverend Wright say that was so wrong?

I want to start a spin-off thread.

"Conservatives? Please show me evidence that what Rev. Wright said influenced Obama."

There was a line from a movie once, 'I went to a Bar Mitzvah once and that doesn't make me Jewish."

I've read translations of Hitler's speeches and it doesn't want to make me start rounding up Jews and invading Poland.

Point is, just because he might've heard it, or might have been there, does not result in influence.

You propose judging Obama by what he actually does. That's just crazy talk.

Non specific accusations like this are what is in:

Everything Obama's admin has accomplished so far seems imo influenced by Wright's ideas.

By all means!

From what I can gather, his fault was blaming 9/11 on our country's history of tolerating slavery, segregation, and civil rights abuses, whereas he should have blamed it on our toleration of gays and feminists like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. In other words, he was only crazy, rather than crazy *and* evil.

Wait, that wasn't our country's fault! It's all in the bibble, we were just following gawd's directions! :p

Or, equally as bad, "Lord Voldemort should cast a curse on America"

What other fictitious literary characters could he have called on to do something fictitious to America? I agree that doing so is wrong, in a very silly way.

A white preacher saying that to a group that included a white guy running for president would not have been given a pass, I think. Obama playing the race card has taken him far. I should say Obama riding the race card has taken him far.

If the colors were changed, I think everyone would be wondering who this crazy preacher is and why would anyone be in his church. Obama was a member of this church because he wants everyone to think he is African American -- which he is not -- just so that he can get the votes of African Americans. He is not decended from slaves. He is not among the group who have to use a whole contenent as the origin of their family. He is not African American.

Here's what Wright had to say on the record after the Obama campaign threw him under the bus:

"Them Jews aren't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter, that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office."

A white preacher saying that...snip

Saying what? The point of this thread it to discuss what was said not the evil visage of Wright that is so seared into the rights mind.

At the risk of carrying on your derailment into race would you care if a white preacher said what ever it is you think is so awful?

Are you saying Obama was given a pass?

I thought he was more or less compelled to make a speech on this very topic to explain his views on race and answer for remarks made by Rev. Wright. I thought his critics still mention Wright from time to time.

I should say Obama riding the race card has taken him far.
Evidence?

To answer the OP, IIRC the statement that drew most ire, was where Wright said something like racism is worse than sexism. (Said something to the effect that a white woman could at least hail a cab or something like that.)

[ETA: I believe Obama also felt compelled to say repeatedly that Israel is our friend, so I wouldn't at all be surprised if Wright didn't make remarks critical of Israel.]

Tyr raises a valid point. The video clip the OP provides isn't the universe of Rev. Wright remarks that drew criticism of Obama's political adversaries.

I would argue he is more AFRICAN-American than most blacks in the US, since his father is from, you know, Africa! 1st generation and all that. ;)

Perhaps it's not the "African" part of that term he was objecting to?

Are you a Birther, Bill Thompson? (Look, I'm just trying to put a more reasonable--or arguably less irrational-- spin on what you said.)

Nobody who has a problem with Obama's association with Wright wants to take on my question?
