Conservapedia on Atheism

I don't know how to categorize Hitchens. He certainly does have some "traditionally conservative" views but he did endorse Barack Obama.
Maybe all that means is that Hitchens is further evidence that a European conservative may seem liberal to an American. :D

"Christopher Hitchens was a member of the International Socialists and an active Trotskyist during his youth. Today he is "on the same side as the neo-conservatives," but does not consider himself a conservative. He supports George W. Bush's foreign policy, but has a negative attitude towards the president's support of intelligent design. "

Not much there at all, really.

Heh, even conservapedia doesn't know what to do with him. He is an odd mix.

I have trouble figuring out exactly how many people take Conservapedia seriously. Seems to me it's got to be an intentional parody but maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. It's basically shouting out loud and publicly "Our world view demands we have our own set of facts!". There's a lot of people out there not listening to their cognitive dissonance.

I am not impressed with their Shroud of Turin article. The conservatives I personally know have more respect for facts than the folks at Conservapedia.

Actually, I think that one is close to "use of reason" being that they think "learned times" is a cause of atheism. Since they think atheism is bad, does that mean they also think peace and prosperity are bad? And what about all the people who believe peace and prosperity come from God?

I'm not sure what "superficiality" is supposed to mean or what it has to do with atheism.

This is just anti intelectualism though.

So he's a Muslim, except when he's an atheist.

But haven't you read FSTDT? New research suggests that atheist are really muslims

No, everyone is born Christian. Only later in life do people choose to stray from Jesus and worship satan instead. Atheists have the greatest "cover" of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims.

That and not being a politician means he doesn't have to go along with some party line.

Most people have one or two issues that they cross the generaly accepted lines on.

This has to be a parody site, it just looks too much like Colbert's site:

eta: actually, I perused the site a bit. It's an excellent resource to use to delve into the thinking of skeptical opponents.

RANT! How the eff do the people at Conservapedia deal with Christopher Hitchens? He's an atheist, and he's conservative. Does he not wear the correct Tartan on his Kilt?

Easy, Hitchens is a communist, didn't you notice his accent?
;)

Apparently Randi uses skepticism as a cover for atheism

http://www.conservapedia.com/Skepticism

Skepticism. The Skeptical School was founded by Pyrrho of Elis (about 365-275 BC) in ancient Greece. It is the theory that the real truth can never be known with certainty. One traditional form of skepticism, advocated by David Hume and Immanuel Kant, questioned the capacity of the human mind to grasp and understand reality. Another traditional form of skepticism, advanced by Hindu and Buddhist philosophers, questions the very existence of a real world outside of the human mind.

In modern times the term skepticism is use colloquially to refer to disbelief in anything non-material, such as God. Interestingly, the Bible itself gives an example of skepticism when "Doubting Thomas" would not believe that Jesus had risen until he saw Him with his own eyes and put his fingers into Jesus' wounds.

Modern atheists such as James Randi use skepticism as a cover for atheism[1] and to claim Christians are persecuting atheists.[2]

LMAO, and their "references" is one of our forum threads!!! Oh this is just too good.

not really, he's one of a band of ex-trots who embraced a blend of neo-conservatism and libertarianism in their middle age- See the revolutionary Community party of Great Brittan/ Living Marxism/ Spiked/ Institute of Ideas etc.

And, according to this website "Since World War II a majority of the most prominent and vocal defenders of the theory of evolution which employs methodological naturalism have been atheists.[4]"

http://www.conservapedia.com/Evolution

Jeez these atheist folks sure are some evil evil beings.

I don't know how common this is, but I was "conservative", and still think the same things, but don't think of myself as "conservative" now, because the word doesn't mean what it once meant (which was about government and economics, not religion). Too many prominent Republicans claiming to represent conservatism have recently gone along with the liberals' lies about who we are and what we think (such as at the Republicans' early Presidential "debates" when they had those ridiculous questions about their "conservative credentials"), so now there's nobody left defending any other definition, and no label left for the rest of us who have non-liberal political & economic beliefs but aren't theocrat wannabes. The word is now only applied to the theocrat wannabes, both by liberals and by themselves. We can't claim the word anymore...

I can certainly feel for that sort of alienation from the word you think best describes your beliefs. Liberal surely doesn't seem to be the best-used of words either.

Thier explanation of the 'Error' explanation of atheism
Error: Some argue that atheism partly stems from a failure to fairly and judiciously consider the facts
Mr. Pot, I would like to introduce you to Ms. Kettle.

I'd like to see their definition of conservative. I'm not going to look it up, but I bet I can get close:

The most perfectest example of perfection ever to grace the the face of the earth is that of the American conservative president St Ronald Reagan who crapped gold nuggets and loved America and Jesus with all his heart, never questioning it's place of exhalted perfection and exceptionalism and as a beacon of absolute and unflinching moral superiority. We should all strive to be more like him and if some evil, horrible awful people can't see how right this way of thinking is, they should be forced to convert of be executed by holy decree of Ann Coulter.

Signed,

Rush "Torquemada" Limbaugh
Glenn "Douchebag" Beck
Pat "Holier-than-thou" Robertson
Jerry "Jesus is love...and those who don't share that sentiment shall burn!" Falwell
All other conservative demagogue's

Jesus saves, hugs and kisses and death to liberals, muslims and gays!

I'd like to see their definition of conservative. I'm not going to look it up, but I bet I can get close:

You were somewhat close but didn't go far enough. From their article on conservatism:

Return of prayer in school
Prohibition of abortion
Opposition to same-sex marriage licenses and homosexuals
Support of laws against pornography
Support of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms
Economic allocative efficiency (as opposed to popular equity)
Stronger law enforcement and anti-crime laws, including the death penalty
Parental control of education
Private medical care and retirement plans
Weakening or canceling failed social support programs
Generally opposed to the United Nations
Support enforcement of current laws regarding immigration
Support tightening of border security
Respect for our military... past and present
Literal interpretation of the Bible and rejection of evolutionism
Low taxes, especially for families

There are a few paragraphs missing in that article:

Atheism and intelligence

% of atheists in the prison population

Atheists and divorce rates vs Christians and divorce.

Living standards in secular countries vs living standards in religious countries.
