Comparison: Bush and Hitler

Man. Oliver, you posted an attention grabbing topic with a really ridicuolus post. What, do you think people AREN'T going to make fun of it?

Anyway, my reply to both you and Ion is "please stop committing the false dichotomy and equivocations fallacies."

Well, the point is a very serious one: Americans, just like Germans
didn't realize the threat for the democratic freedoms. So the questions
are legitimate. (Read the updated OP)

And concerning "false dichotomy and equivocations fallacies". The
thread isn't about fallacies but rather about similarities.

So in your point of View: The suspension of habeas corpus, for example,
isn't in any way comparable. Right?

"The event was quickly followed by the Reichstag Fire Decree, rescinding habeas corpus and other civil liberties." Source

Probably all of you heard some people comparing the current
White House/Bush/Cheney etc. to the Nazi-Regime/Hitler - and
the similarities about how both Administrations "adjust" democratic
regulations in a way that rather limits freedoms.

I've heard a lot about these limited freedoms, but for the life of me I haven't been able to detect any changes in my constitutional rights at all. Perhaps I'm going to the wrong parties...?

Well, apparently Hitler did some painting in his youth. Can Bush paint? I'm sure he has some sort of talent. I hope they announce it on the news when someone finds out what it is.

Bush never had to paint. People in his social class pay others to do such menial work.

You could do contrasts as well as comparisons. Wouldn't they be equally valid?

Government Hitler inherited was shaky experiment in democracy -- government Bush inherited was constitutional republic that had been going strong for over two centuries

Hitler brilliant strategist (at first anyway) -- Bush couldn't strategize his way out of a wet paper bag

Bratwurst cost a billion marks -- Bratwurst cost $1.50, and still nobody is buying

German people were angry and ready for change -- American people are apathetic and ready for lunch

Jews forced out of their professions and their homes -- Jews CONTROL OUR DESTINY!!!!

Which shows to go ya that you can raise legitimate concerns and start a dumb thread all at the same time.

Um, I hope you're just making a joke. And that people still remember Hitler went to art school. Had he been better at art, well, he might not have gone into evil. Or at least, he'd have wound up being an evil artist. Like Andy Warhol, only less weird.

Listen, I know everybody's fooling around in here but I'd really like to seriously delve into some of these issues. It's easy to make fun but it isn't nearly as easy to sit down, study a problem and really come to grips with all of its many facets. With this Hitler/Bush thing, I believe ... I believe ... that I have, in fact, uncovered a real and important moral and historical fact. That fact is that I think I can transform "Adolf Hitler" into "George Bush" using the ET Corn God code.

This is all.

According to a movie I saw once, they did in fact save Hitler's brain. What they did with George's is anybody's guess. I suppose if you coated it in a nontoxic covering it could serve as a hamster toy.
