Coleman Franken Redux

Let's get back on topic, people!

Franken is now the president of Iran, right? Or is it Jerry Springer? No, wait, Aheadinajar is the governor of Minnesota? And where does Cedric Bixler fit into all this?

By the way Meadmaker, thanks for all the hard work and investigation that you did during this long ordeal. I read your posts with interest because I knew that they could be relied upon to be factual, even if you did have a candidate preference. You really added a lot of E in JREF.

Well....thanks. Glad to be part of the new, amateur, distributed, 21st century media.

Edit: On topic, I really think the GOP has put another feather in their cap of hypocrisy. After Gore v. Bush, where they argued it was definitely very important to resolve this ASAP, faster, faster, faster, for the good of the nation, we're now left with... um... well, apparently drag it out as long as possible.

What the national coverage of this failed to show (in much of the coverage) was the utter frustration of the Minnesota population.

Let's get back to the topic of Coleman vs Franken.

How many more embarrassments will it take for the Republicans to realize that Norm Coleman doesn't cut it? His only win was when Paul Wellstone died and the dems threw in Mondale as a last second replacement. The guy has lost to both Jesse Ventura and Al Franken.

What a resume!

The chairman of the Minnesota Republican Party called Thursday for a massive, eleventh-hour investigation into allegations of illegal voting by felons in the state's bitterly contested 2008 Senate election.

The move comes on the heels of a report by a conservative watchdog group that the number of illegal votes greatly exceeded the 312-vote margin that made Al Franken a U.S. senator -- and barely two months before the records will be destroyed.

… snip …

Referring to Minnesota Majority, which conducted the voting study, Pawlenty said: “They seem to have found credible evidence that many felons who are not supposed to be voting actually voted in the Franken-Coleman election. I suspect they favored Al Franken. I don’t know that, but if that turned out to be true, they may have flipped the election.”

… snip …

McGrath said Minnesota Majority's survey found that 2,800 felons voted in the election. But he said he expected the final number to come out somewhere near 1,000 as investigators, with access to non-public databases and other information, separate out “false positive” names.

"We received about 480 names from Minnesota Majority," Ramsey County's lead prosecutor Phil Carruthers told KARE Wednesday, "About 270 were clearly inaccurate and were rejected right from the get-go.

He said a quick review revealed the names and birthdates didn't match, or that the felons in question were no longer barred from voting.

"They were ruled out usually because they had the wrong identity of a person," Carruthers explained, "Or because the person no longer was on probation, and thus their civil rights had been restored.""We're going to continue to investigate 180 other complaints but we're not talking about a huge number of actual cases. And of that 30 [that they found were accurate so far] about half of them were registration only, they didn't actually vote."

Hennepin County's probe

In Hennepin County the pattern has been much the same. Of 451 names submitted by Minnesota Majority, 235 have been ruled out for prosecution while 216 are under review. Proving such cases is a time-intensive effort, according to Pat Diamond, a deputy county attorney.
So far the investigation has found 15 felons who illegally voted. That is nowhere near enough to turn the election. If we extrapolate their success rate (50%) investigation to the full data set we get: (180)*0.5 + 15 from Hennepin county and 216*(0.5) = 108 from Ramsay county for a grand total of 213.

213<312 so we can expect a lot of conservative whining but the substance is that even had ALL the felons voted for Franken Coleman still would have lost.

A final note, the news story mentions that the investigation was underway BEFORE this conservative watchdog group got involved.

I suspect that Pawlenty fellates goats. Could be wrong. Who knows?

I know, you're Just Asking Questions.

Pawlenty fellates goats?

The use of the question mark (or Cavuto Mark) makes everything ok.

My favorite Fox News way of making the accusation while pretending it's not them making it: Some say Pawlenty makes sweet love to goats under the full moon. Ann Coulter will join us to discuss the allegation.

Here's the keys to the story:

The Minnesota Majority describes itself as "Standing together for traditional values", meaning, of course, a right-wing religious group.

Yes, I have no doubt that all these groups are doing their level best to overturn the results of what is possibly the most closely scrutinized vote in history.

Or at least lay a foundation for propaganda to be used in the next election.

I'd be more inclined to expect convicted felons to vote for the conservative candidate. After all, just because they were caught is no reason to think they would turn against their own kind.

LOL, yes that has definitely become more prevalent at FoxNews in recent years. You can pretty much count on Gretchen Carlson saying that every morning on Fox&Friends.

An ingeneous use of the Cavuto Mark, but not one he would approve of.
