Does anybody know Brian Ahern's middle name? I'm finding patents for a Brian F Ahern and a Brian S Ahern. Of course, neither of them seem to deal with things that would be related to nuclear processes, but it would be interesting to see how far afield he's actually working....

Abstract
English Abstract:

For a condensed matter system containing a guest interstitial species such as hydrogen or its isotopes dissolved in the condensed matter host lattice, the invention provides tuning of the molecular orbital degeneracy of the host lattice to enhance the anharmonicity of the dissolved guest sublattice to achieve a large anharmonic displacement amplitude and a correspondingly small distance of closest approach of the guest nuclei. The tuned electron molecular orbital topology of the host lattice creates an energy state giving rise to degenerate sublattice orbitals related to the second nearest neighbors of the guest bonding orbitals. Thus, it is the nuclei of the guest sublattice that are set in anharmonic motion as a result of the orbital topology. This promotion of second nearest neighbor bonding between sublattice nuclei leads to enhanced interaction between nuclei of the sublattice. In the invention, a method for producing dynamic anharmonic oscillations of a condensed matter guest species dissolved in a condensed matter host lattice is provided. Host lattice surfaces are treated to provide surface features on at least a portion of the host lattice surfaces; the features have a radius of curvature less than 0.5 microns. Upon dissolution of the guest species in the treated host lattice in a ratio of at least 0.5, the guest species undergoes the dynamic anharmonic oscillations. -GOVT PAC GOVERNMENT RIGHTS IN THE INVENTION PAR This invention was made with U.S. Government support under contract No. F19628-90-C0002, awarded by the Air Force. The Government has certain rights in this invention.

Strong force nuclear interaction of hydrogen isotopes, deuterium in particular, have been extensively studied in the regime above 30,000 eV. Tunneling phenomena through the Coulomb barrier has been well characterized and described as requiring tunneling through a barrier of 0.7 .ANG. in width and 400,000 eV in height.

Interaction of nuclei in a palladium-deuterium condensed matter system has been shown to be 10.sup.7 times more probable than the Coulomb tunneling described above. The reported successes in this system are best accounted for by a palladium-deuterium interaction scheme occurring in the presence of strong wave function overlap. It has been shown that such wavefunction overlap may be achieved via specific molecular orbital degeneracy conditions.

"Because so many crucial non-proprietary details have been omitted by Rossi, Focardi and Levi in their documents, precisely calculating the exit velocity is difficult. However, several researchers have used available information to make their own ballpark estimates to compare with the Rossi group’s ballpark estimate.

Peter Ekström, the deputy head of the Nuclear Physics Division of the Department of Physics at Lund University, calculates that the volume per second of dry steam coming out of Rossi's device should be 3.4 liters per second. Because the inner diameter of the hose appears to be 12 mm (1.2 cm), this 3.4 l/s would create an exit velocity of 30 meters per second, or 67 mph. He says this is inconsistent with what we see in the video.

LENR researcher and mechanical engineer Domenico Cirillo calculates that the steam exit speed should be 137 mph.

Randall makes a simple calculation and arrives at an exit velocity of 76 mph. (3.4 l/s of steam = 3,400 cm3/s. Hose cross section is about 1 cm2, so velocity of exit steam is 3,400 cm/s = 34 m/s = 76 mph.)

As shown by my video, the exit velocity appears to be not 137 mph or 76 mph but close to 10 mph."

OOOH, WOW, Now that sounds pretty serious. Maybe it means I'm soon to be apprehended by the skeptics cops. Surely I should consider going into hiding or more.

No. It just means that you've said something silly and now you're trying to sound smart when caught.

It's amusing to see how little you care about the things being discussed here. One wonders why you come here at all.

Interesting comment from Daniele Passerini’s blog:

“Levi will not read the report # 3 of Krivit, there is no reason why not. At this time the new report Galantini, I remember with pride to have been solicited by the passion of their readers of this blog, and already in the hands – as Smith would say – a very, very high level world class scientists (I am a witness) and even a few true journalist. Soon they themselves make clear why the report # 3 is one of the worst examples of science journalism of all time: only a “dossier” artfully constructed to discredit Smith and all those involved in the development of E-Cat.

Tonight, in fact I had the great and undeserved opportunity to become acquainted with some exchanges of emails that have already all the air can become a piece of history. In a few months I predict a peak in the world, not oil, but requests for psychotherapy by skeptics, deniers, scientist, following the collapse of their granite certainties. I rub my hands.”

Would be a bit ironic if Rossi turns out to be the real deal, and Krivit , who has spent a big chunk of his life trying to find proof of this technology, would be remembered as one of Rossi's most outspoken critics.

"Would not it be ironic if jesus second coming was already done and HE is actually a skeptical atheist ?"

You can make a lot of ironic scenario but this does not reflect anything whatsoever on their probability.

It's pretty easy to have doubts about Rossi. Not enough is known, and I must say the steam shown in the Krivit video really set me back. I'd love to see this be for real. The world has never needed it more, but some things about Rossi don't help convince me. I guess I still have a glimmer of hope that he is doing this in purpose to string us along.

You need to ask, "What would be the point of "stringing us along"?"

If he really does have the solution to one of* the greatest problems in the world, why would he bother playing these silly bugger games with anonymous people on the internet? Why play the silly bugger games with filing inadequate patent applications that are pretty much doomed to failure?

When you're honestly promoting what you honestly believe is a fundamental breakthrough in science and technology that upsets pretty much all of accepted theory in physics, it's essential that you act in as clear, unambiguous, and upstanding a manner as possible, because anything less just makes you look like all the frauds who have come before.

*In fact, it solves several problems - oil dependence, really, all fossil fuel dependence, nuclear waste disposal, global warming, all sorts of other pollution problems, and abundant cheap energy will make people everywhere richer. And that's just off the top of my head. He'd have to be one of the biggest idiots in history to go playing stupid "Gotcha!" games were this technology to be real.

Wouldn't it be ironic is Rossi was miscaluclating the energy output?

Really, unclep2k?

there is not super hot steam coming from the hose, so something is up.

I must say the steam shown in the Krivit video really set me back. I'd love to see this be for real.

Rossi plugs a heater into the wall, flows water over it, and some steam comes out.

Why does that set you back? I have a teakettle that does the same thing.

The only reason I could think of for stringing us along is to make sure he is ready to market before the competition kicks into high gear.

He may want enough exposure to build a potential market, but not to convince completely so he keeps a head start on possible competition.

So why engage in any of this nonsense at all? From what he's claimed, he already had a working model operating in his factory, and the negotiations to build the megawatt plant have had nothing to do with these public demonstrations. So why go out of his way to attract attention when what he really wanted to do was avoid attention?

And if he's concerned about protecting himself from competition, why did he deliberately nerf his patent applications? As it is, if this works, it will be trivially easy to reverse engineer, and any large company should be able to reproduce it in very little time, and without a patent, he won't have any legal recourse to stop them from doing just that.

So, even in this case, his actions make no sense.

But they make perfect sense if you assume he's a con artist, rather than an honest inventor.

Well I certainly don't know. I tend to doubt him also, but won't know for sure until October or whenever he starts marketing or running. Kinda interesting that Piantelli and Ahern are also supposedly getting some results in similar research. I guess that supports what little hope I still have.

Cheap, safe, small scale fusion would be the second most disruptive technology easily imaginable; it would change modern life to a greater extent than solid-state electronics and the internet combined reaching far beyond technology and changing world politics.
I suspect the medium term results would be rather unpleasant though.
