Merged Cold Fusion Claims

Mainly I want to keep you sharp cuz there's now at least two more cold fusion claims you will need to confront. One is Francesco Piantelli's Nichenergy, I believe in Italy, and the other is the work of Brian Ahern at MIT. You're going to have your hands full.

If only we could be powered by claims , the world energy problem would be solved overnight.

Since we are not, all I see is vaporware.

Funny thing that, I am having the darndest time finding him on the MIT site. So what is the link from the MIT side, not the blogosphere?

MIT gives no hits except for two speeches given in 2006 and 2008.

So where is the MIT side of this?

Yes, but if you use the search feature at MIT's site, you get zero hits, if you use teh google search for MIT you get two talks.

So 'work at MIT' is outdated or a bit of a strech.

How many bites of the apple are you going to need?

The problem might be with seeing these things as unique efforts, each requiring a distinct examination. If only one proves to have merit, the entire field gets a nod and the Pope's blessing.

This reminds me of UFO-ology. If even one sighting can't be explained, aliens are visiting. But who has the time or energy to debunk every crop circle?

The only thing that distinguishes the two is the ability to make money. For UFOs you have to write a book or get speaker fees. For this energy stuff, you sell shares and take investments.

For me, if Rossi is bogus, I'll wait until Wal-Mart is selling the next version... or the next.

That's actually a pretty good method. Let the marketplace decide its worth. Not a bad filter (but not foolproof either).

Does anybody know Brian Ahern's middle name? I'm finding patents for a Brian F Ahern and a Brian S Ahern. Of course, neither of them seem to deal with things that would be related to nuclear processes, but it would be interesting to see how far afield he's actually working....

The device may produce some excess heat, but not nearly at the levels claimed by Rossi and his collaborators Sergio Focardi and Giuseppe Levi. In fact, the heat released from the experiment appears to be several orders of magnitude less than what they have claimed, at best.

So their pushing the cold fusion is real but don't buy Rossi's magic heater, wait for the better model line.

It's not just the University denying that, it seems, look where they got the information:

New Energy Times contacted Senior Press Officer Anneli Waara of Uppsala University today in an attempt to confirm the story. Waara sent our inquiry to Kullander and Essén.

“According to Professor Kullander, there is no such agreement or preparing for an agreement as suggested by that information,” Waara wrote.

So even people who previously came out in support of Rossi's claims are calling ******** on this. Is this that "overwhelming" support we're supposed to be afraid of?
