So...I guess he has become a political activist now. Watch http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032608/vp/46774894#46763344 . The Campaign of Murder. So how many other countries civil wars should the U.S. be involved in? Who is going to foot the bill of an involvement? Is getting young people worked up to go to war for other countries what we want to teach them. Are they willing to maybe risk the lives of their children to fight in a war that is not on U.S. soil? Should George Clooney hold a Telethon for Darfur? Our have a Public Service Anouncement where callers can join..."For only 33 cents a day you too can..." Or how 'bout he gets a few of his friends together (like Pitt, Willis and Cruise...) and they parachute in fully armed and take care of business?

So what is wrong with being a political activist?

After all, George Clooney has the money and the time to be a political activist if he wishes to do so.

So you prefer to just ignore it?

Ignore this

So say your finger is on the trigger...who do you want to...BOMB?

OK, so a narcissistic, overpaid actor thinks that because his opinions are extra important because he's famous.

I'm shocked, shocked to find there's been gambling in Rick's Cafe!

I don't think Clooney really thinks his opinions are more important just because he's famous. I get the impression he thinks he can make the situation better by using his fame to make more people aware of it. I don't see anything wrong with that, really.

This. I think that he, like Bono, is being sincere when he adopts causes. It's not like Clooney's profile needs to be raised, even if it could be higher (and I don't think it could).

The GOP is cool with famous actors who support their cause, even as said actors' brains ooze out their ears, even elect them as POTUS long after the subtle hints of dementia have appeared, but they get all bent out of shape when a talented and charismatic liberal start stands up to rally the people to a cause.

Bleedin hypocrites.

He's been an activist for a long time. On Sudan and other issues. That was news to you I guess.

I wondered a little when he starting hammering on the issue a few years ago. What am I supposed to do about genocide? What could I have done about Rwanda? Mostly the activism seems along the lines of the 1960s phenomenon of "consciousness raising." How helpful that is, I'm not sure, but it probably doesn't hurt.

Is getting young people worked up to go to war for other countries what we want to teach them.

Yes, apparently it is what we want to teach them. But it sure didn't start with George Clooney.

Are they willing to maybe risk the lives of their children to fight in a war that is not on U.S. soil?

Historically they have been.

Should George Clooney hold a Telethon for Darfur? Our have a Public Service Anouncement where callers can join..."For only 33 cents a day you too can..." Doubt if he'd go for option 3.

Why does what Clooney says bother you so much?

Yeah! Who does he think he is!

All should follow Charlie Sheen's example for how to behave in the public sphere!

You (as well as a lot of other people) seem to have missed my point. I'm also bemused at the outrage that a famous actor would bring attention to something he thinks is important.

For the record, while I do think that Clooney is way overpaid for what he does, I can at least appreciate that he's not promoting crazy religious views, kissing dictators' behinds, appearing in court for beating up his girlfriend, etc.

What makes him overpaid? Are the people paying him not getting a good return on their money? Can someone else do his job for less money? How much should he be paid?

Dearie me. I didn't mean to upset your delicate sensibilities.

It's just my opinion. Yes, there are actors who can do his job just as well if not better for less pay (although they might not sell as many magazines by appearing on the cover, I'll agree). Obviously the people who pay Clooney disagree, which I'm sure is the important thing from his point of view.

How is he overpaid? Who should be getting the money he personally is the cause of accruing? Do you think that money he is paid would be coming in without him? Do you think if someone is personally responsible for people collectively paying hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue they should only be allowed to a certain amount of that money?

I find it fascinating that when it comes to left-leaning figures like Michael Moore and George Clooney, they're always "overpaid" whose wealth is the target of disgust and condescension.

When it comes to the salaries and bonuses for financial executives, they're beyond question because the Free Market (tm) has decided that they're worth it--bailout or no bailout.

On the plus side there may not be anyone left alive in the Sudan by the time we invade.

Yeah, how long ago was it that a very prominent US General labeled what was going on in the region "genocide"? I believe Bashir is under indictment as a war criminal.... No doubt he'll avoid travel to more civilized parts of the globe.

At least Clooney has the cojones to actually go over there and show what's going on first hand.....

1) He's not overpaid
2) Whether he's a narcissist, I have no way of knowing. But he doesn't come across that way
3) Whether he thinks his opinions are "extra important" (whatever that means) is unknowable, unless you were to ask him
