Church shooting some kind of trend?

In her defense, it was in question form. You may assume a leading question, and an acusatory posture, but I seriously doubt that she believed that most of you would shoot her even if she was a minister. I have seen some Atheists in these parts who are not very kind to Christians, and they might have aggravated her. I have seen some who are much less civilized than I expected to find on such a site, and I always wonder why people would take such inferences from a question.

Yet, I too, take inferences from questions. So I can understand why some of you are offended. Not all on this site would deserve my confidence, and I have been here less than a week.

If you attack people for asking the hard questions, where will it lead?

Given the history of her posting, I'll disagree. You're here a week, so I'll assume you haven't seen the past 4 years' worth of posting from KK. You see, KK likes to play martyr while simultaneously engaging in backhanded questions attempting to assassinate character. Try these:

Start here for general list of nastiness.

Try here for a specific example of nastiness.

But I digress, back to the post at hand:

Well I am afraid these types of events will continue to grow as the end draws near. We are warned in scripture many times that believers will suffer persecution.

If I was a preacher or pastor would some of you here on Jref do this to me?

Yes. Is that the answer you wanted to feed your sense of superiority? Or did you want the truth? Because the answer you want to hear and the actual truth of whether a member of the JREF forums would shoot you for preaching are opposite of each other. Your history of posting over the past 4 years here should show you no one is going to physically harm you on this forum for your preaching.

No, but I might throw custard pies at you.

Not out of malice, just to see if it's possible for you to look more like a clown than you do already.

In her defense, it was in question form.

Oh, please. Are you really that much of an idiot?

...would be another example of something that's offensive even though it's placed in question form.
You may assume a leading question, and an acusatory posture,
May I? Oh, thanks!

I agree with you that this was not an honest question, but merely an attempt to insult.

Where "kind" is used to mean "as deferential as mainstream society"?
to Christians, and they might have aggravated her. I have seen some who are much less civilized than I expected to find on such a site, and I always wonder why people would take such inferences from a question.
You always wonder why people would infer insult from a question designed to insult, that does in fact insult? This is something you always wonder?

Yet, I too, take inferences from questions. So I can understand why some of you are offended. Not all on this site would deserve my confidence, and I have been here less than a week.

This was not a hard question. It was one of the easiest questions I've ever seen here. It was an offensive question.

Really? Most violence? Do you have the figures?

I'm assuming (no insult intended to Uma Thurman) he meant violence connected with religion.

As opposed to violence within religious groups, he meant violence between different religious groups.

You really should look at her posting history before you bend over backwards to defend her statement. A quick look could tell you that she meant everything in her post.

And I'm unsure how you can claim both that people are taking an inference from the question that is not there and that she is asking a hard question. "Hard questions" are those which force you to be brutally honest with oneself to come up with the answer. If she really didn't mean that she thinks atheist forumites would shoot her if she were a preacher, what would be hard about that question? For it to be hard, there would have to be the possibility that the answer is yes.

And as linusrichard pointed out, framing something as a question in no way prevents it from being an insult or offensive without anyone having to take inferences from it. If I asked, "Why are you so ugly?" would you assume that I did not mean to be insulting?

Correct. I meant "religious violence", but it is my fault for not making that clear.

Mayor Daley from Chicago will no doubt attempt to use this incident to whip up anti-gun hysteria for the purpose of creating yet more gun laws here in Illinois. He somehow thinks that more words on a piece of paper will change anything.

On the news this morning, it was reported that the shooter was suffering from brain damage as a result of having contracted lyme disease. He had been under treatment for some time.

It's my hypothesis that incidents like this that attract a lot of media attention sort of worm their way into the consciousness of the disordered.
Columbine spawned a number of similar incidents and plots to commit same, for instance.

The last church shooting was last June at a Unitarian (read that as non-christian) church. A church considered highly secular and one that many atheists will belong to.

Also, did you notice the reason for it being targeted? It was TOO LIBERAL? Much like how YOU VIEW atheists.

"Too liberal" is a gross oversimplification of the shooter's opinion of the Unitarians.

Here's a note he wrote about why he did it. It was supposed to be a suicide note, but he didn't die (or even get hurt) so instead of a suicide note, it just became evidence.

(Spelling original)

Don't let the word church mislead you. This isn't a church, it's a cult They don't even believe in God. They worship the God of Secularizm. These sick people aren't Liberals, they're Ultra-Liberals. This is a collection of sicko's, weirdo's + homo's. The UU church is the fountainhead, the veritable wellspring of Anti-American organizations like MoveOn.org, Code Pink and other un-American groups...They call themselves "Progressive". How is a white woman having a niger baby progress?

Is UU really athiest now? I thought they were "non-trinitarian" "One and only one god" believers?
You're thinking of just Unitarians. The Unitarians joined with the Universalists in the early 1960's. It is currently a liberal heretical religion which can include atheists like myself.

Not all liberal heretics are bad. I believe the pastor who came by to help my family with my Father's hospice care was UU. He seemed to speak a lot about god, and he actually seemed to care and had a lot of empathy for my family.

I really liked him.

Kathy, Sometimes it's best to actually READ an article fully before making such statements:

The last paragraph couple paragraphs:

Also, did you notice the reason for it being targeted? It was TOO LIBERAL? Much like how YOU VIEW atheists.

Good so the shooter was a good christian.

Good so the shooter was a good christian.

And Jefferey Dahmer? Let's load the nets with red herrings so we can determine who to blame based on nothing but single occurances or our own beliefs.

Wouldn't it be nice just to realize that the individuals who committed the crime were responsible?

Jeffrey turned Christian after being caught, and blamed only himself:

I recently turned into a Native American Spiritualist. I understand that indians killed a lot of people, but I still believe in their type of spiritual encounter rather that heaven, and hell. You can learn a lot from dogs and eagles. The eagle kills for food, and dogs are territorial. Some people around here seem territorial too.
