I understand they've asked Vladimir Putin for a response to events in Washington but he can't stop laughing long enough to make a statement. In all seriousness how will the USA ever again be able to criticize the democracy, or lack there of, in other countries?

If it means us butting out of foreign wars for awhile, I'd personally be okay with it. But then again, I'm kind of a short-sighted hippy.

It's not treason. It could be sedition, was likely insurrection, but it wasn't treason. Treason is defined in the US Constitution and Legel Statues, and this was not it.

Totally agree.

I haven't kept up with this thread, or even been watching the news. My wife keeps texting me, however! This is a very sad day for our country. And Trump will probably pardon all these traitorous thugs.

They are waiting to hear from the Capital Police that the Capital is cleared and secure.

As to the objectors, seems that a few are going to be contested.

McConnell's speech was good and it included lies.

I was proud of McConnell today. That's probably a first. He said the right thing with the right tone.

But unfortunately, it included a bit of whataboutism that was totally false.

I'm a little surprised that they would reconvene so soon. There are certainly some traumatized members of Congress. (there's one picture that exemplifies this). Not to mention, I'd think they'd want to first sweep the place for explosives, then sterilize it.

Pelosi issued a Dear Colleague letter stating that Congress will resume the count once the Capitol has been cleared for use.

After that, we will see what happens. Normally the House and Senate adjourn after the account until after the inauguration. They may stay in session to address this riot.
