CCW holder killed reaching for ID.

Fantastic news. Criminally careless cowboy faces justice.

Oh did Skeptic Tank know that the cop charged is non-white????

I've encountered all sorts of different behaviors during stressful incidents, but this is the first time I've heard of where the reaction to a perceived lethal threat is live streaming.

I don't believe that is what happened here, rather the passenger started streaming right after her partner was killed.

He was still alive, you can hear him at the beginning.

About live streaming - I can only imagine, but who knows what she's seen in her life. Her behavior as her boyfriend lay dying seemed rather calm too. That can happen. I certainly wouldn't criticize her for it. He was shot in the arm so maybe she thought it was minor at first.

Perhaps this isn't the first time someone close to her, physically or otherwise, has been shot and killed. Perhaps she is very familiar with how blacks are treated in her area (however they are treated, I don't know) and has had enough.

Perhaps she was in a kind of shock.

Interestingly, the defense was trying to have Castile´s CCW ruled out of evidence, but it has since been ruled allowable.

That would be the defense's job I guess. Nice try

I'm not sure if I responded to this thread in the past or how, but watching that video again was tough.

Something happened to my best friend the other night that could easily push me more toward the "hater" category. It has been a challenge thinking clearly. I'm glad I saw that video again, it puts a real face on what's going on and I needed to see it.

:(

I might have read it wrong, but didn't she say she was afraid she was going to be killed and started live streaming on FB?

ETA: The girlfriend of a black motorist shot to death by a police officer during a traffic stop in Minnesota has said she began streaming the event on Facebook because she feared for her own life.

My impression is that live streaming was becoming more common among people who feel threatened by the police so that the interaction was recorded in a way that the police could not remove or take down.

:(

I guess I should have elaborated as to why I thought it was interesting :D
The defense tried to get the CCW kept out of court by stating that because marijuana was found in in his system, he therefore lied on his permit rquest by stating that he ws not a drug user. I wonder how many CCW holders, regardless of race, would fail that test on any given day! A

Also, yeah, that was hard to rewatch for me, too. Shock is a bitch. And talk about some deep-seeded trauma for the 4 yeat old girl in the backseat.

Is this the one where he said "I have a gun"' and reached for his pocket? To get his permit?

No, this would be the one where the officer asks for ID and while getting it, the victim tells the officer that he has a concealed weapon, as required by CCW laws in several jurisdictions, and is then shot by said officer.

Because evidently, as a CCW holder, you 1. must deliver certain information, or be shot/arrested, and 2. it must be delivered in the correct narrow time window, or be shot/arrested.

We only factually disagree at your use if the word "no".

The girl friend did not say that he said "I have a permit" or "I have a permitted ccw", or even "I have a ccw", She said he said "I have a gun" as he reached into his clothes.

And as usual, did not start filming until the pertanant action was over.

So it's not a slam dunk case against the officer.

Do whatever pertinent statutes requiring notification of possession of a firearm to a police officer have a prescribed formula which is mandatory in order to avoid being shot out of hand? ("If you don't say it exactly this way then don't say anything. Or you'll get gunned down on the spot.")

And as usual, did not start filming until the pertanant action was over.
"As usual"? Are you suggesting something aside from the idea that the woman started her recording as soon as she realized that there might be a serious problem unfolding?

So it's not a slam dunk case against the officer.
When is it ever?

Police who are charged with the most blatantly egregious offenses are routinely let off scot-free or with a slap on the wrist.

What would be unusual is if it were a slam dunk case.

Cop lawyers, unions, and groupies never fail to amuse in their obsession for apologia and excuses for bad cops screwing up.

The idea that, in a country where it is legal to carry a firearm, telling someone you have a firearm is likely to get you shot is mental.

Yeah.

Tell that to the guy who got shot down without so much as a "Drop it." for holding an air rifle in Walmart. He'll agree.

Or rather, tell his bereaved. He's not around anymore to benefit from the information.

It doesn't even have to be a firearm, and it doesn't matter whether or not the possession is legal.

The most significant points seem to be skin color and gender.

And for God's sake don't wear a hoodie. That's as good as a big red "Please Shoot Me" sign.

Also lying on the ground with your hands up is like painting a target on you.

This 100%. I was trying to find a way to type exactly this last night but my brain was having trouble processing the extreme absurdity and stupidity of the situation. The cop shot a citizen for exercising his lawful rights and the best excuse people can come up with is he didn't say some subjective magic words correctly. How stupid.

White people with guns = Open Carry, CCW, or *other* gun activist exercising legal rights.
Black people with guns= Oh, ****, hide the women and children! Shoot, shoot, before they shoot you!
