It isn't. Your source was clearly labeled as fiction. You were clearly told not to take it as a representation of fact. Either you ignored it at the time, or came lately to that realization. In the former case, shame on you. In the latter case, you should admit your error.

From my experience of jury service, it was taking the time to have a coffee and try on some of the stolen jewellery. It was a slam-dunk 12-0 conviction of a mind-bogglingly stupid burglar.

He reminds me of someone I knew, who kept getting in trouble doing stupid things, would come demanding help, refused any advice and solution that didn't involve condoning his errors and giving him money so he could keep going on, got into more trouble, and complained that nobody would help him, wash, rince, repeat.
It didn't end well.
