Cancel culture IRL

I don't see anybody dying on that hill. Most are just amused that apparently Charles Blow and Warner Brothers can't see that Pepe's inappropriate behavior is meant to be creepy and farcical. If Blow had said that Pepe is wrong because he's an unkind stereotype of a Frenchman, he might have had a case. But blasting him as an example of rape culture is clueless.

It's clear that the wannabe rapist is meant to be the comedic figure, but modern audiences probably don't find the subject matter as funny. Recent understanding of the nastiness of serial rapists and sexual harassers kinda takes the fun of this trope.

So you don’t have a problem with what happened to her?

Nope. I've never been a Carano defender and I even said some mean things about her actions in that massive block of posts that got sent to AAH for being off topic.

I'm a Kroger Andy defender though I'm not a Kroger defender.

There's always Quagmire on Family Guy, just sayin'.

Since you used the term in your question, you should probably define it. I expect you'll evade this once again, and I'll take that to mean you don't really want to engage on that question. [emoji6]

Why do I need to define the terms in a question you already answered?

You already said he wasn’t “cancelled”. Now all you have to do is explain how that still qualifies as “cancel culture”, per the definition that you provided.

You’ve alleged over and over again that Disney was “pressured” into firing her.

You seem to want to thread the needle between being fine with Carano’s fate but also implying that there was something inappropriate in how it happened. Schrodinger’s “cancel culture”, I guess.

I'm a Kroger Andy defender though I'm not a Kroger defender.

Good news. One of our leading experts on “cancel culture” has already determined that he wasn’t “cancelled”.

I posted a link and a relevant snippet that showed that pressure from outside played a role in Carano's firing. If you'll remember I also urged you to write to Disney execs so you could get some sort of handle on just how much this contributed to their decision. I implied it was inappropriate ?

That only concerns the johnny karate definition of cancel culture which is comparable to the Fox news definition in it's incorrectness.

But Quagmire isn’t Pepé Le Pew. Why, it’s almost as if there’s nuance involved.

When in doubt, whip out the nuance excuse. Let's compare a cartoon made made when Jesus is still alive and pretty much forgotten to a cartoon that's being made today with massive ratings and compare their respective contributions to rape culture.

Still not clear why I would contact someone else to substantiate your claim. But with all the effort you’re putting into not taking a position you would actually have to defend, I suppose you’re just scrambling.

johnny karate hasn’t provided a definition of “cancel culture”. He’s using the one provided for him by one of the experts in this thread.

And to recap, per that expert, Kroger Andy wasn’t “cancelled”.

An “excuse” for what?

Why do I need to define the terms in a question you already answered?
Because (as I've already pointed out) the answer to your question depends on what you take the term to mean.

If "cancelled" means "subjected to a performance of public shaming" then you get one answer.

If "cancelled" means "sanctioned by their employer as a result of public shaming" then you get a different answer.

By the way, you do recognize that words take on different meanings depending on context, right?

Why would I want to take a defensible position ? Like I said before, if I want to roast some SJW chestnuts, I wouldn't do it using Carano's firing.

It's popping out now because of Gina Carano. However, no-one hates Star Wars like Fanatic Star Wars fans. People within the Fandom have been upset with Kathleen for quite some time.

funnily enough, many of the "fans" who are whinging about Gina being fired for her overt political postings are the exact same fans that have been trying to get Kathleen fired for years over her supported SJW political messaging.

Of course I do.

But again, you already answered the question.

The only reason you want to have a discussion now about “defining terms” is because you’ve painted yourself into a corner.

You’ve already said Kroger Andy wasn’t “cancelled” and you realized admitting that about the reason you started this thread isn’t a great look, so now you’re back-pedalling.

Why an excuse to try and paint Quagmire as not so bad as the skunk, of course. You wan to go with rape culture cartoons ? I've given you rape culture cartoons on steroids.

I don’t know what you mean by “You wan(sic) to go with rape culture cartoons?”. I didn’t bring up rape culture cartoons or Pepé Le Pew, so I have no idea what you’re talking about.

But Quagmire and Pepé Le Pew are different, in at least one significant way already pointed out. I’m not sure why saying that is controversial.

Such a weird game the anti-cancel culture people play.

They insist everything is under threat to be cancelled, and then when it’s pointed out that not everything is the same, it becomes this clumsy attempt to make hypocrisy accusations.
