And Trump canceled the Kennedy Center and the artists that appeared there.

He is working overtime trying to cancel Kimmel over a dumb joke that is certainly likely to prove to be true. Melania has a 95 percent plus chance of being Trump's future widow. She is 25 years younger than Trump. Healthier by far. Women on average live longer. He didn't say Trump should be assassinated.

It's absurd that a comedian should lose their job over this. But let's face the facts. This has nothing to do with this stupid joke. It's that Trump is trying to eliminate any narratives that he doesn't like.

Those fellas on the right are always talking about "cancel culture" like it’s some kind of ghost haunting the coal factory. But then you look at this list -- the Dixie Chicks, Kathy Griffin, Jimmy Kimmel, maybe that there kneeling sportsball player -- and it turns out these same fellas are the ones tryin' to do the canceling! Now, people say to me, "Isn't it a shame? These screaming mobs trying to stifle expression? Havin' a 'chilling effect'? Freedom of speech as freedom of thought?" And I say, sure, that's not good. In fact, that’s quite bad. But I think we can all agree, just like with that Bill Cosby character... the absolute worst thing is the hypocrisy.

Forty-five academics were fired or punished for Kirk-related speech incidents, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, a free-speech watchdog group. In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott personally intervened in multiple cases. When a student at Texas State mockingly reënacted Kirk’s shooting, Abbott posted on X, “Expel this student immediately”; six hours later, the university released a statement saying that “the individual” was “no longer a student” at the school. At Texas Tech, an undergraduate was arrested after taunting a Kirk mourner. “Thanks Texas Tech,” Abbott posted, below a photo of the student in handcuffs. Cody Campbell, an oil executive who chairs the university’s Board of Regents, replied, “We, @TexasTech, are proud of our values and are not afraid to stand up for them.” The school soon announced that the student was no longer enrolled.

Each successive paragraph of the story, each new revelation, just makes the entire thing seem less and less believable. I started looking for corroboration when I got to the party where one of the owners left the mess to go to clown school.

Anyway, yeah. Cancel culture isn't about standing for one thing, and standing against something else. Cancel culture is, at its heart, cannibalistic. A true cancel culture warrior is always looking for someone else to drive out of the in-group.

Off the top of my head, conservatives have called for sanctions against Kathy Griffin, Cardi B, The Dixie Chicks, Taylor Swift, Janet Jackson, Madonna, basically any woman with a platform who speaks out against conservative values.
