Canadian Heathcare system sucks!!

They're not even trying any more - the refutations of the right are just absurd:

"Last night on the O'Reilly Factor, Bill turned to the audience letters. From Peter in Canada: "Has anyone noted that life expectancy in Canada under our health system is higher than the USA?" Bill wasn't phased, but he did use some creative math to answer. "Well Peter, that's to be expected," he said, "we have ten times as many people as you do!""

It's no mere coincidence that there are a series of MRI facilities all along the Canadian--New York State border. And, they're not targeting NYS residents.

Yes, that explains it. Canadians live longer because part of Ontario is close to some MRI clinics in New York state.

You know, there are private clinics in Canada (Montreal is the champion in that category) where you can get an MRI and other things, you just have to pay for them directly... It's private insurance that's not there, though Chaoulli vs Quebec is supposed to have changed that.

I was watching a programme on the TV last night and it featured a hospital in Canada that specialised in "gender re-assignment" surgery. One of the comments was that most of their patients came from the USA because the surgery was not widely available in the USA and the Canadian hospital had a world wide reputation for its results. (They also mentioned that many transgendered USA folk went to other the countries because the surgery was significantly cheaper outside the USA.)

ETA: Missed this post:

The hospital featured in the programme was in Montreal - who'd have though it USA folk having to go to Canada to get the treatment they both need and the quality they want.

Question here for our friends living in the UK, Canada or any other country that has some sort of universal health care: Would a woman in active labor or a gun shot victim be turned away from an emergency room due to the fact they were an illegal immigrants?

Thanks in advance for replies, sorry if this was asked before.

Wouldn't be turned away in either case in Australia.
