Calexit? LOL

Old thread, but this just popped up on my news feed:

"They call it #Calexit.

Interest in pushing for California's secession from the United States has increased after Donald Trump won the presidency.

The "Yes California" campaign is backing an independence referendum in support of a constitutional exit of the state from the US. In the wake of 60% of the state's voters supporting the presidential loser, Hillary Clinton, the movement is getting renewed interest.

"As the sixth largest economy in the world, California is more economically powerful than France and has a population larger than Poland. Point-by-point, California compares and competes with countries, not just the 49 other states," the campaign's website said.

The #calexit name stems from the successful "brexit" campaign in Britain to leave the European Union.

While the Yes Campaign has been considered a fringe movement in the past, it began trending on social media Wednesday night attracting more mainstream notice. Supporters are proposing a referendum on the issue in 2019."

Didn't you guys have a little spat some 150 years ago over whether states have the right to secede from the union?

Given the size of its economy, I don't think the rest of the USA would very much fancy losing California one way or another. But are there states that most Americans see rather they'd lose than keep?
 
I don't see California exiting the union, however, seems to me Clinton could very well be elected Governor there if she wanted I suppose. Chris B.

But as I've mentioned before, "Calexit" is too dull to get any traction in California; the organizers need to get with the "Supercaliforniaisticexitaladocious."

I do wish CA and NY would divide so they get more Senators. Of course I can see the red states all dividing to get their own extra senators. But the bottom line is, the Senate is skewed and states rights has become the excuse for some people having a greater voice in the government than others.

Seems to me the agreement that Texas join the union has a clause the Texas might be broken up into five states. I wonder by whom? Can Texans Breakxit? (Quinxit? Cincxit?) Eight more EC for Trump?

CA has a head start though. They have a border entry stop on the state line. It's just like coming back from Mexico, except this is coming into CA from AZ. You have to stop there on I-40, they even ask you what your business is in California! To me this is outrageous. The only state in the US that does that. They already think they are another Country.

The chances of California leaving are zero.

However, if they did, the new magical electoral college number would be 215. Without California, Oregon, and Washington, it'd be 196.

If not for losing easy access to the Pacific, it'd almost be worth it to let them go.

But I think it's funny people think that without serious border control California would somehow end up as part of Canada rather than Mexico.

Yes, I do live in California. I've lived here for most of my life. I did live in Schenectady NY for one year when I was four. I also lived in Phoenix, AZ for one semester when I was 15.
 
WA and OR can join in. We'll cede a corridor to the Pacific, however TUSA must cede all nukes in return. We'e not going to want a nuclear neighbor who's that bat **** crazy.

California alone has a larger population than Canada. Get ready, Canada, for the concrete canyons of the west coast to wisely rule over your vast expanse, too! There's nothing they, from their dense cities, aren't so expert at for the wilds that they don't know how to micromanage it!

Scientists have packed more and more rats into a small living space, and at some point, they turn on each other and fight. This is the proper mindset to vote to rule all.
