Bumper sticker. . .(shudder)

@DJ Hex: Sorry, the only BDSM that interests me is Blessed Dragon Scale Mail in the old game Nethack. :-}

Understandable, but a wee walk on the wild side never hurt anybody. . .uh, except Tim Treadwell. . .and Jim Morrison...and Hendrix...aw, hell, if you need me I'll be playing Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga...where Argilla consumes demons via her breasts. . .yet is ambivalent about it. Still, the storyline is much better than anything else I've seen or played. A game that has a Mantra called Insane God I can dig. There's even one called Wikipedia! Definitely worth checking out if you have a PS2, and you can find it.

As long as we are discussing bumper stickers, I find this one quite funny:

"Annoy a liberal: work, succeed, be happy"

But the response:

"Annoy a conservative: defend the Constitution"

is just lame and not funny at all. Here is what I think the counter-sticker should be:

"Annoy a conservative: conserve!"

:D

We need to know the answer to this very important question:

Silver or Gray?

:D

Darn if I remember. Been a LONG time since I marched a little white @ around a maze of gray #### fighting various letters of the alphabet... :-D

Assuming the story is true then they got their sign. How convenient that proof (signs) are not to be given out anymore and that to want proof (a sign) is to be evil. What? Paul said "prove all things". How can I prove those things without proof.

Need help here.
Jesus died but he rose again and he is very much in control of this world. I just don't know why he hasn't come back yet? Why is it so hard for you to just want to believe in God's only Son?

The same reason it is hard for me to just want to believe in Sikhism.
The same reason it is hard for me to just want to believe in Hinduism.
The same reason it is hard for me to just want to believe in Islam.
The same reason it is hard for me to just want to believe in Paganism.
The same reason it is hard for me to just want to believe in Zoroastrianism.
The same reason it is hard for me to just want to believe in Bahaism.
The same reason it is hard for me to just want to believe in Animism.

You and I are both skeptical of religions. I'm just skeptical of one more religion than you.

So, I'm curious, why is it so hard for you to believe in all of these other religions?

If you ascribe to that. What I don't understand is why I should believe in "The Son"?

The problem here is with the word want. I believe in things for which there is tangible evidence. Jesus does not fall into that category.

How witty, have you ever considered a job in creative writing?

Wow. So sure of yourself, when you're parroting your holy book. So lost, as soon as you try to question it even slightly.

You know, Kathy, maybe you shouldn't be preaching your religion until you're sure about all aspects of it. Not just what the stories say, but how it makes sense and how it holds together.

Ah, yes, when graphics really did not matter. I hope some software co. doesn't remake it into a "real" RPG, or worse, an MMORPG!! :jaw-dropp That'd be akin to Eidos making a Paranoia shooter!

...Why is it so hard for you to just want to believe in God's only Son?...

Let's look at this from the 10,000' perspective:
Why is it so hard for
to just want to believe in [X]?

This implies that there should be a motivation that would cause me to "want to believe" in "X". Not, believe in X, but want to believe in X. So, if we dig down in to that, the true question being asked by KK is, "What want(s) do you not have, that I do have?" That I can answer through the words of Carl Sagan,
Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people.
I am okay with that. I do not want/need for us to be special or unique.

For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.
I do not want/need to have all the answers. I am okay with uncertainties.

So, tell me KK. What wants/needs do you have that make you want to have to believe?

I've always thought that an objective reading of the Gospels is irrelevant. Kathy, you've got the key thought. Matthew 16:13-16. Others will draw different conclusions. I don't think there's any reason to wonder or question why people draw different conclusions. People who lived concurrent with Jesus thought that he was different things, it's only sensible that people who live centuries later will draw different conclusions as well.

Now...can the...let's just say New Testament...be read objectively? I think so...but I'd add that it has to be read objectively in the specific, and not the general. I think it's clear that the Gospels weren't meant to be read objectively, but were written so that each individual can be confronted with the person of Christ and then draw their own conclusions. Reading it as you would approach a history textbook misses the point.

It's definitely an idea.

Here's one..."Don't blame me, I voted for Jesus!"
