Bullish on Bernie: The Bernie Sanders 2016 Thread

Votes pointless with delegates anyway

No, delegates are part of the party primary/caucus elections. And they are not pointless if your vote goes to electing a delegate of your choice.

sunmaster was talking about the general election where there are no delegates, by name, but electors in the electoral college (although arguably these are delegates of a kind). It's not pointless to show your support for someone who is not the candidate for a major party if enough people can show that there are alternatives to these.

Looks like Sanders could make up some ground over the next 5 contests, but then comes New York on April 19th.

You have Alaska, Hawaii, and Washington on March 26th, Wisconsin April 5th, and Wyoming April 9th. Combined those 5 states have 286 delegates, then New York has 291 delegates on April 19th.

The people on fivethirtyeight said not to be surprised if Sanders wins the next five or six contests (at the time of recording their podcast) but said it won't change the fact that he's toast.

John King on CNN ran the numbers. Bernie would have to win every single state from here on out by a 55-45 result to almost catch up with Hillary.

Okay, so Bernie had a very good night. He netted around 62 to Hillary's 55. So long as we ignore superdelegates, that's a narrow win.

Also, what's with white folk? For whatever reason, they seem to be breaking hardest for Uncle Bernie.

I watched Sen. Sander's Seattle speech online. The audience looked diverse in ethnicity and age. Then again, the large West Coast cities tend to be much more diverse than, say, Iowa or New Hampshire, two states that seem to have more influence I'm the elections than any other state.

So... I guess when the polls say that it's going to be close, that means that Bernie wins with around 70% of the vote -- at least in some places. Kansas was the same way. Ohio doesn't count as being "even in the polls," because their poll numbers changed after Michigan shamed the pollsters. The earlier prediction (prior to Michigan) was pretty close to the result there. Illinois was a similar situation, except the later adjustments ended up being correct, unlike Ohio.
Caucus vs primary is a big factor.

In other words, the pollsters are still full of crap, if you want me to summarize.
See above.

According to AP, Clinton is at 1,214 pledged delegates and Sanders is at 901 as of today. So he needs to win 57.3% of the remaining 2,157 to break even.

Say, Hillary picked up another state that the Democrats are going to lose in November.

Hillary, only a bit racist but number one with racists.

Lots of people being turned away in AZ because they aren't in a Party and it's too late to join one. Will that be reported as cheating Sanders too?

Do you get dizzy from all that spinning?

The actual facts are that a number of registered Democrats showed up and found that their registrations had been changed to Independent or Libertarian. The AZ Democratic Party legal staff has demanded investigation into possible irregularities. This isn't a Bernie vs. Hillary issue in AZ, it's a flat-out malfeasance issue; and if there is a conspiracy, it's more likely GOP trying to sabotage the Dems given the political makeup of the state. At best, it's gross incompetence. Nate Silver is calling the situation an "outrage".

I understand now why you are a fan of someone who said that "inner city kids" are "superpredators" who need to be "brought to heel."

Protip: "inner city kids" is dog whistle for African Americans.

It doesn't hurt her campaign that she has openly trumpeted her religious views; and the African American demographic is one of the most religious in the nation. Bernie being an atheist is only going to hurt him with that demographic.

Even after it's been beaten into you how what she said isn't racist, and what was meant by that, you prefer to ignore all reason and believe that she was talking about all black kids, not the insane criminals... Only the most extreme people out there really believe that she is racist, and you would have nothing in common with them politically... but it's too tasty a treat for you to let go of! That's priceless! You don't give a **** about her being a teeny bit racist 30 years ago... you're mad she's gonna win! Love it.

Unlike Sanders, who picked up 2 states that Democrats are going to lose in November.

Winning.....

Oh dear, time to reply with facts:

"[W]e also have to have an organized effort against gangs, just as in the previous generation we had an organized effort against the mob. We need to take these people on. They are often connected to drug cartels. They are not just gangs of kids anymore. They are often the kinds of kids that are called 'super-predators.' No conscience, no empathy. We can talk about how they got that way but first we have to bring them to heel...."

Damn that is some racist dog whistle stuff aint it?
