Bullish on Bernie: The Bernie Sanders 2016 Thread II

Interestingly, Hillary's the one who's had neurological problems in the past few years

That was just the host body attempting to reject the brain parasite. Luckily for Hillary, she was able to re-exert control and now the host body has very nearly human movement and body language. She still has trouble with blinking appropriately, and of course flames burn blue in her presence but that's a universal sign of cosmic evil and hardly unique amongst politicians.

81% in Alaska. I know it's Alaska... but 81%? Wow.

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. Maybe you could explain.

I'm from Alaska, and I'd rather see Bernie than Hillary despite his stupid stances on a number of things. I think he'll kill a lot fewer people than Hillary and that Hillary doesn't care who she's starting war with - Russia, China, the Continent of Africa - she's only going to care who makes her rich.

Libya and Syria are wonderful complements to the disgraceful historic stupidity of Bush invading Iraq. We're going to get more of the same with Hillary as president and I think that more important than Bernie trash-talking nuclear power.

So, apparently this happened: Clinton Campaign: No More Debates Until Sanders Starts Being Nicer

Excerpt:
Joel Benenson, the campaign's chief strategist, said on CNN Monday morning that Sanders needs to watch his tone, or else the Clinton campaign will pack up its ball and head home. "The real question is, what kind of campaign is Sen. Sanders going to run going forward?," Benenson said when asked about Sanders' request for a New York debate.

Coming from the campaign that relied heavily on negative campaigning in the previous race, and has been decidedly negative throughout this one, that comes off as rather hypocritical.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks more like desperation? That she doesn't want to get hammered on issues in her hometown race, the one of three she needs to win in order to keep Sanders from further eroding her lead? Why would anyone in their right mind refuse to debate at this stage of the race unless they felt they had something to lose by doing so? Does she think that Trump or Cruz is going to play nice in the run up to the general election?

I like how he tried to spin the Sanders' campaign pointing out the problems with Clinton's politics as "negative" ads. This just sounds profoundly silly.

Bring me up to date here as to why this came out now. I'm having trouble finding anything more recent than Feb on a Google search.

Seriously? It was a comment about tone, in a general discussion about tone, which you demanded a citation for. Why are you so desperate to spin this into something else?

I didn't demand a citation. I simply asked why bring this up now?

Good grief could you be any more hostile?

This looks like desperation on Sanders' part. Clinton is doing so well in the NY polls that she doesn't need to add an extra debate in order to sway more voters. Sanders is the one crawling to Clinton, begging for another debate in the desperate hope that it will help him, and the Clinton campaign is reminding him who is boss, here.

Interesting article in the local blog. The turnout for the caucus in this state was much higher than expected, particularly in neigborhoods that had a large Sanders majority. This has held true for most states where Sanders has had large wins. Yet more evidence that he is motivating new voters and previously apathetic voters.

Anything for Team Clinton to avoid having to face the reality, I guess. Particularly as this was a debate that Clinton already agreed to, and is now trying to find an excuse to back out of.

Sounds more like she doesn't want to risk looking bad an losing some of those numbers. Why else complain about the "tone" of a debate preemptively? Not like the GOP is going to give her a break on "tone".

She has been doing poorly in recent debates, and I'm betting she doesn't want a repeat of the last one.

Reality? That she's still way ahead in delegates, votes cast, and the polls? Why would "Team Clinton" have to avoid that? And according to this article, posted by your fellow Sanders supporter 16.5 earlier, the debate had not been agreed to before: "After winning a trio of states over the weekend, Sanders on Sunday called for a debate in New York ahead of that state's April 19 primary. The Vermont senator is looking to cut into Clinton's delegate lead and says he has the "momentum" heading into the latter half of the race.

The pair faced off in a Miami debate earlier this month, and a Sanders campaign letter on Sunday said the two campaigns had agreed to a California debate in May but had not agreed to terms on a debate in April, according to The New York Times.

Clinton campaign's has made insinuations that Sanders' supporters are almost exclusively white, and that POC overwhelming support Clinton.

#BernieMadeMeWhite: No, Bernie Sanders Isn't Just Winning With White People

Excerpt:
So, which point of view is correct? Sanders does horribly with minority voters? Or the media does a bad job of telling the story of Sanders' existing minority support?

"Well, I think looking at the exit polls," Randy Brown of Edison Research told NPR, "they're both correct."

Edison conducts entrance and exit polling for American elections, and has conducted polls on primary voters and caucusgoers in 20 states so far this election.

Brown said, by some measures, Sanders actually leads among black and Latino voters.

"Among African-Americans, who are 17 through 29, Bernie Sanders is actually leading that group, 51 to 48 [percent]," he said. "Among 17-to-29-year old Hispanics, Bernie Sanders leads Hillary Clinton 66-34."

"I think the big takeaway," Brown said, "is that whether it's among whites or African-Americans, Bernie Sanders does significantly better among the youngest voters in the Democratic primary."

Ultimately, it's more about recognition and familiarity for many Clinton supporters.

Not agreed to terms on a debate in April is different from not agreed to a debate in April.

from luchog's reference:
Clinton Campaign: No More Debates Until Sanders Starts Being Nicer
http://www.motherjones.com/politics...-no-more-debates-until-bernie-starts-be-nicer

...The Sanders and Clinton campaign have tussled since the start of campaign season over the number of debates. But it seemed like those silly tiffs were finally settled back in January, when the two campaigns agreed to meet for debates once a month through May.

Now the Clinton campaign is sounding less sure about that agreement. Joel Benenson, the campaign's chief strategist, said on CNN Monday morning that Sanders needs to watch his tone, or else the Clinton campaign will pack up its ball and head home. "The real question is, what kind of campaign is Sen. Sanders going to run going forward?," Benenson said when asked about Sanders' request for a New York debate...

So, If Clinton has won all the debates so far (to hear some tell the tale) then what is she afraid of in doing another one ahead of a primary that (again according to some) she has a commanding lead in and which should put her close to her assured nomination in her (one of many) Home state(s)?

Not agreeing to terms is very different from agreeing to a debate. luchog made the claim that a debate had been previously agreed on, yet all available evidence shows Sanders suddenly asking for another debate this past Sunday, not a cancellation of a previously agreed upon debate.

Because (and I really thought this was obvious) Sanders needs something to try to turn NY around, but Clinton does not. Why should she give him a chance?

In January Clinton agreed to 4 additional debates, one each month through May. If she chooses to reneg. now, it will be up to her to deal with the backlash. I certainly understand her fears, but the people really don't trust her or respect her word now, so I guess it's just Hillary being Hillary.

If Trump can't handle Megyn Kelly, how on earth would he be able to handle another smart blonde woman who is closer to his age? Or for that matter, a smart white haired New Yorker who is just a few years older?

So "where did you get that from" required a citation? Might it not also simply refer to how/why it was being discussed at this time?

Hypothetical answers:
Where do you get that from?
John Doe brought it up.

Where do you get that from?
Apparently it's been a revived issue in the blogosphere.

Where do you get that from?
Out of my :rule10
Yep, the answers all fit the question just fine.
