Brexit: the referendum

I did some number crunching on online polls versus phone polls. The only way remain can lose in my opinion is by people not getting out and voting in same numbers as the leave side.

Which is an interesting conundrum. The most passionate Leave campaigners are absolute dead certs to vote because they are motivated by principle but there are also presumably a lot of disaffected, usually politically disinterested, people who are also Leave-leaning because they think that Brexit would somehow improve their lives. These people may not be particularly well motivated to turn out.

Still worried that it'll be a wafer thin margin to Leave :(

  • The calm and clear way in which Nicola Sturgeon spoke impressed her - even though politically they are miles apart
Nicola Sturgeon didn't take (a main) part in the debate last night. Maybe she took part in the post-debate spin that I didn't watch.

Ah, it was most likely a misidentification of Ruth Davidson, all Scottish lady politicians sound the same :p (and it would also explain the alignment of their political positions).

Hmm - don't repeat that mistake in the same room as either of them - at least not until you have checked your life insurance is valid :)

I noted on my way into work that The Scum have chosen - on the day before the referendum - to put the Queen on their front over, implying she is pro-Brexit. This is rather staggering considering what happened the last time they pulled such a stunt. I guess they think it will be worth it because no censure can stop it now.

unless we're suddenly going to reduce wages, employee safety or environmental standards

I don't even know who is supposed to be the winners in the event of a Brexit....

I've picked out a couple of related points.

As far as I can tell, the object of the exercise for most in favour of leaving is to be able to run sweatshops.

I looked at around to see whether that whole UKIP site was a spoof, but it seems not afaics.

"weaponised pancreatic cancer" ?? We're all in deep trouble.

Seems that Gove is either going for a Godwin or likening himself to being the Einstein of economics:

"We have to be careful about historical comparisons, but Albert Einstein during the 1930s was denounced by the German authorities for being wrong and his theories were denounced, and one of the reasons of course he was denounced was because he was Jewish.

“They got 100 German scientists in the pay of the government to say that he was wrong and Einstein said: ‘Look, if I was wrong, one would have been enough.’”
