EU industrial trawlers have been hoovering up fish in UK waters in the last days under EU control. Glad we will patrol our waters as we have been doing, but this time to enforce our rules. We can have a fishing policy kinder to our industry and marine environment.

They could send HMS Prince OF Wales the new Carrier.

Apart from they can't the engine room has been wrecked by a burst fire main and was flooded for 24 hours in the electrical machinery spaces and turbine compartment.
It needs all new electrical gear and turbines and has delayed it's extended sea trials by 6 months wile a couple of hundred million are spent rebuilding everything.

We could send one of the Type 45 Destroyers apart from they are all still unseaworthy due to ongoing problems with power failures leaving the ships dead in the water and are having engines, switchgear and auxiliary diesel gen sets replaced.

Was Chris Grayling in charge of the projects?

Rule Britannia. Brexiters wanking themselves into a frenzy over fish and guns, forgetting we got our arses kicked 3 times over cod by a country with no navy and a population the size of Bradford.

The UK has none of the systems in place to handle No Deal.
To keep the ports open it’s likely that all Customs checks will stop for six months.
So no checks on people trafficking, drugs, counterfeit goods and medicines.
This is not taking back control. It is abandoning it.

What's the source of this quote?

Bouncing around on twitter. It's opinion rather than official.
How else will things be kept moving? There aren't any systems or infrastructure in place yet.
There is a fortnight to go.

There is increased lorry traffic coming across the4 channel at the moment as businesses are ordering extra stock and materials as contingency against disruption.
This is causing backlogs at the container ports and cargo is being diverted to European ports for final delivery by road. Ferries and tunnel are extra busy as a result.
Some of it is being put on to A to B container ships that shuffle around the North Sea. Teesport is extra busy with increased sailings from Europort. Lorries have been queueing at the container terminal for a couple of weeks

Teesport gets two RoRo ferries a day from Zeebrugge, These are dedicated trailer ships, mostly 'unaccompanied'.
There is enough capacity to put in an extra ship each day and a lot of the car transporters that used to come through Teesport now operate out of Immingham and the Tyne so there is talk of using the car terminal as an extra RoRo facility which could put several more ships a day on.
It's not going to happen in a fortnight though.
For a start there aren't any extra ships available .

14,000 people are going to be pretty cramped on four River-class vessels.

I just looked them up on and HMS Trent was in the Mediterranean, Forth is at the Falklands, Medway the Caribbean, and Tamar and Spey aren’t yet commissioned, leaving Tyne, Mersey and Severn already on fisheries protection duties. Maybe Tamar or Spey will be commissioned soon.

Who do you think you are kidding, Mrs Merkel?

They don't like it up'em!

Our MD sent out an e-mail this week that made a good point, you give the negotiators a deadline like the 31st of December and that's when a deal will be done. All these arbitrary deadlines Johnson keeps declaring and abandoning are pointless posturing, the end of the transition period is the only one that really counts. The best hope is the EU offers a few face saving concessions on fishing and the Daily Mail is too ecstatic to notice Boris has given in on everything else.

But whose opinion? Anybody that it's worth listening to?

Suspending all customs checks for 6 months is a massive claim, and how seriously it should be taken is very dependent on who it is that's saying it.

Someone with some connection to the government, customs, or some other relevant body then it's worth giving consideration to. If it's just random nobodies, then there's no reason to give it any more of a second thought than claims that Joe Biden injects himself with the blood of murdered babies.

The problem is the whole cabinet seems to be a collection of loose cannons all willing to state six impossible things before breakfast.

The UK and EU have agreed to carry on post-Brexit trade talks after a call between leaders earlier on Sunday.

In a joint statement, Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said it was "responsible at this point to go the extra mile".

The pair discussed "major unresolved topics" during their call.

The two sides had said Sunday was the deadline for a decision on whether to continue with talks, with the UK set to leave EU rules at the end of the month.

The leaders agreed to tell negotiators to carry on talks in Brussels "to see whether an agreement can even at this late stage be reached".

They did not say how long these latest talks would continue, but the ultimate deadline is 31 December, and time must be allowed for the UK and European Parliaments to vote on any deal that emerges before then.

Mrs von der Leyen said Sunday's call with Mr Johnson had been "constructive and useful".

But Mr Johnson repeated his warning from earlier in the week that a no deal scenario was "most likely".

We know that the IT systems aren't in place and we know that the physical infrastructure is still under construction.
As for the backlog that already exists for container traffic, it has been reported in several places that the main ports have a backlog and ships are diverting to European ports.
As for Teesport and Immingham in particular, I follow North Sea shipping. I can see increased port calls at the container terminals and I see the lorries queued at the tees container terminal.
PD Ports have been talking about putting on an extra RoRo alongside the two ships that are already on the Tilbury, Zeebrugge Tees run and bringing the rarely used car terminal in to use as another RoRo terminal but that would need new infrastructure around it.

As for a specific source? just the people I follow.
