Brexit: Now What? Part II

As with Donald Trump's secret plans to defeat ISIS, Theresa May's secret plan for making Britain Great Again - through a Top Secret negotiating strategy - can't be aired lest Johnny Foreigner gets wind of it.

But after it is negotiated everyone will be so stunned that we'll all get tired of winning. Just you wait!
The sheer inanity of the whole process - especially the people behind it - is mind-numbing. I'm so glad I just don't give a toss anymore. Hey, it's a gorgeous day - so much for that Brexit Meltdown they predicted! Hah!

If we aren't told what she will be negotiating, any result can be trumpeted as a resounding victory for the UK

Repeating missinformation and wrongness is just wrong you know. So when did Britain join Shenghen again?

But then, what to expect of Brexiters then to lie about everything because truth would torpedoe their entire premise and reason for existence...
I never said we did join Shenghen.

Right now, we can't stop (for example) Poles from crossing freely into Britain in practically unlimited numbers. Once we've left the EU, should we choose to do so, we will be able to stop them.

What exactly is wrong with (for example) Poles crossing freely?

I think there are too many people here already.

Actually, if I were in charge of quotas and such, I would favour Poles over immigrants from many other nations. Poles do seem to adopt British culture quickly. Usually their kids are just as British as anyone else, with only their difficult-to-spell surnames marking out their ancestry.

Are you in the habit of ranking people by their birthplace and ancestry?

I think people who've made the effort to come here with the ambition to improve their lives are already a step ahead of those who just happen to have been born here. In the end, though, everybody should be judged on their own merits.

You claimed you have no control of border. The only thing that affects borders, is Shengen. Your claim thus is wrong. (Or is missing masive load of evidence)

Hmmm. You might want to educate yourself about what control EU member countries have over their borders before you make any further posts.

And yet again, that's what Brexit is all about. Keeping Poles out of the UK. That will prevent UK citizens from travelling freely to Poland, but who cares about that, eh?

It's totally congruent with earlier British governments, who also held a dim view of people invading Poland. :boxedin:

It would be very unfair if we in Scotland were to expel Poles, or admit only rich Poles. Scotland and Poland have a history ...
Aside from merchants and mercenaries, there was another class of Scottish immigrant operating in Poland: the pedlar. The Scots pedlar became something of a stereotype in Poland and parts of Germany, and these travelling salesmen wandered the landscape selling all manner of goods, from cloth to kettles. They were not always popular characters, and even fellow Scots in Poland complained that too many of their countrymen migrated without proper means or contacts to establish themselves, thereby earning them all a poor reputation. After complaints from Danzig in 1624, King James VI issued a proclamation restricting migration to those who showed evidence that they had been invited by sponsors or could make their own way on arrival.
One of the old districts in Danzig was known as Alt Schottland, now known as Stare Szkoty, Gdansk. (ETA In 1520 Alt Schottland was destroyed by the Hohenzollerns, and later repopulated by Dutch Mennonites, and Jews.) This international intimacy ended when, during the eighteenth century, both Poland and Scotland lost their independence.

From someone who cannot spell Schengen this is hilarious.

Scotland's population is too static for meaningful economic growth. We need more people.
