Brexit: Now What? Part II

I was always on two side with the Burqua, on one hand if anybody want to go with a colleander or whatever religious implement, be my guest, but on the other hand we long have had laws forbidding entering masked in a bank, or driving with an unrecognizable (masked) face, or exercise proselytism in a secular environment (e.g. advertise your religion in school). As we have a right of freedom of religion, but in the end our government is secular and the exercise of the religion must be lawful within that secularist environment (e.g. you cannot break laws because it is your religion) the conflict is evident. In this case IMO it is the religion which has to give in, no "masking"- Burqa while driving or going into a bank, or if the law is found ridiculous by citizen , then one should be allowed in carnival mask too while driving or in a bank (i.o.w. your face is unrecognizable). Basically religion should not be allowed to get away with stuff which would be illegal for me to do outside of religion, both should be illegal, or both should be legal.

But that's probably food for another thread.

Yeah but don't then man the barricades for Christians who dont want to rent a hotel room to gay couples.

It kind of gives the game away.

UKIP's fundamental problem is that it got what it always claimed to want, and now has no reason to exist. Like so many on the Leave side it neither expected nor wanted to win the referendum. Their expectation/hope was a narrow defeat they could use to lure disgruntled Conservative supporters, and possibly a few disgruntled Conservative MP's. Instead they are left in the position of everyone noticing that for a party that denies it promotes racism and homophobia it seems to have an awful lot of racists and homophobes amongst its senior ranks...

Sikhs are entitled to positive discrimination in the UK. They are allowed to ride mopeds without wearing crash helmets and don't have to wear protective head gear when working on construction sites and similar where it would be a sackable offence for a non-Sikh.

This is obviously because their turbans are incompatible with helmets - and their turbans do provide some head protection, though not as much as an approved helmet.

Thing is wearing the turban is as I understand it a requirement of the Sikh faith, the same is not true of the Burkha. As can be seen in Muslim countries such as Malaysia the requirement for women to dress modestly can be interpreted in far less all concealing ways.

No, it's his stated position.
Homosexuality is a sin 'gay rights' and the laws protecting and promoting them should be scrapped, abortion shoukd be illegal and the NHS should be privatised.
Also thinks Global Warming is a hoax, the housing stock should be taken back from foreign owners, muslims are all terrorists, foreigners should be persuaded to leave the country etc.
Wants to see the Labour party destroyed and UKIP replacing them as a party for Patriotic Workers that will destroy the Tory Elites.

tbh, apart from that last paragraph and a half that pretty much exactly what my local Conservative MP (and did I mention, colossal tool ?) believes.

Sharp-eyed journalists spot Brexit gateau preferences:

The government has distanced itself from a page of Brexit notes caught on camera in Westminster.

The handwritten notes, carried by an aide to Conservative MP Mark Field, included "what's the model? Have your cake and eat it" and "unlikely" in reference to the EU single market.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-38134859

More snippets from those notes:

If it is, it implies that it's "unlikely" the UK will remain in the single market, and that a transitional arrangement, immediately after Brexit, won't happen either.

It says that a deal on manufacturing should be "relatively straightforward" but one on services will be "harder".

Great, we're going to screw most of our economy

For those doing this yes that clearly give the game away. In my case thought I don't know which way I would want it to go. Dropping what looks like fairly logical law, or reinforce secularization of France. They have both positive and negative aspect. ETA: and I am for gay marriage so i am pretty happy France was not "last" to accept it.

Is it sarcastic statement about him?
Unfortunately not.

British bicycles and umbrellas for all...

[It's a Jeeves and Wooster reference]

He is an MEP. Guess where his career will go post Brexit. Just like Farage, he took an elected post in an organisation he wanted no part of for reasons he is unable to explain. Don't ask me to explain that, Farage and co. cannot. Why should I?
It's not like he did much as an MEP, except collect his salary.

Well the UK already has a state church.

Angela Merkel has reportedly blocked a request by Theresa May to guarantee the rights of EU citizens before Brexit negotiations begin next year.

The Prime Minister's informal approach to the German leader over EU migrants' status – in a state of limbo since the referendum in June – was made earlier this month when the pair held a joint conference in Germany, according to Politico.

But Ms May's attempt at a “reciprocity deal”, which would have guaranteed the existing rights of around 1.2 million British people on the continent and millions of EU migrants in the UK, was blocked by the German Chancellor.

Since the EU referendum, leaders of other member states have repeatedly warned that they will not engage in any form of negotiation until the UK Government triggers Article 50 – the untested protocol for leaving the union.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-angela-merkel-eu-migrants-deal-a7445261.html

Why is it so hard to understand that there will be no negotiations or agreements until the UK triggers article 50? The desperation in the British government is just pathetic.
