Cont: Brexit: Now What? Part 6. Pick up sticks...

Probably the initial negotions between the manufacturers and, to some degree, the suppliers - the bulk price. Once that's settled the 'price per prescription' gets printed in the drug tariff.

In theory it's to stop pharmacy buying groups (where a group of independent pharmacies club together) buying items that are cheap one month but know the reimbursement price is going up next month. There may be other reasons but stockpiling and redistribution has been a problem in the past.

But it stands to reason that the prices are probably going to rise due to Brexit, so wont stockpiling have already been started by these groups? Surely they must know what drugs are most in demand and what ones are probably most at risk from price fluctuations?

I guess I'm just struggling to see how these NDAs apply to this under these circumstances.

What about them?

The New European: Caller says he voted for Brexit because of three-pin plugs

"A caller to James O’Brien’s radio show has claimed he voted for Leave so that he can continue to use three-pin plugs in the UK.

Robert from Rochester called the LBC radio phone-in programme to give his verdict on a second referendum.

However when it came to asking why the caller was so incensed on ensuring the UK leaves the European Union, he was struggling to explain the benefits...

As he continued to bluster, the only tangible benefit he could name was that we would be able to continue to use three-pin plugs.

“One of the ones for me is the plug system... we obviously use the three-pin in this country. The EU don’t,” Robert told O’Brien."

The EU apart from Ireland, Malta, and Cyprus, of course....

That's the one, it was painful to listen to. Yet compelling and funny (especially since he got yelled at by his Mum on air). It was like a motorway pile up composed entirely of clown cars.

I think I prefer this piece of either the dumbest proposal ever or the greatest piece of political satire in this century. In which a modest proposal is made to solve the Irish border problem by microchipping the Irish.

There is entire group of similar plugs. (CEE 7 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_power_plugs_and_sockets#CEE_7_standards)

BTW: Italy uses three pronged plugs too.

Yes, but in the 'stupid arguement' stakes that detail still pales into significance compared to the fact that the caller was saying Britain needs to leave the EU in order to use the plugs that we already use.
What next "We need to leave the EU so we can drive on the left and speak English dagnabbit!"

Yes, that bit confused me. Perhaps the caller was under the impression that 500 million sockets would have to be converted to 2-pin and 120v, by order of the EU?

So they voted for Brexit.

ffs :boggled:

I doubt it was that coherent. He did mumble something about 'plastic pins' being allowed because of the EU.. (Earth pin can be plastic in non earthed applications, it's cheaper and electrically no different to a non connected metal earth pin. Many plugs now have partially plastic sheathed live and neutral pins, these are safer.)

I think the most likely explanation is talking out his bottom.

BBC News: No-deal Brexit ferry contract sparks concerns

"Concerns have been raised over the readiness of a British firm contracted by the government to run extra ferries in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Seaborne Freight was awarded a £13.8m contract this week to run a freight service between Ramsgate and Ostend.

The firm has never run a ferry service and a local councillor said it would be impossible to launch before Brexit.

The government said it had awarded the contract in "the full knowledge that Seaborne is a new shipping provider".

The Department for Transport said that "the extra capacity and vessels would be provided as part of its first services".

"As with all contracts, we carefully vetted the company's commercial, technical and financial position in detail before making the award," it added."

Hmmm....

I was just about to post that.

The narrow berths at Ramsgate mean there are only a few suitable vessels, most of which are already in service.
Seaborne Freight declined to give details on which ships it planned to use for the service, saying the information was commercially sensitive.

Ferry services have not operated from Ramsgate Port since 2013
Dredging would start on 4 January in preparation for the freight service.

No time for formal tenders.

Tory MP Ralph Lucas was recently made a Director.
Anthony Bamford brother of Tory donor and Pro-Brexiteer Lord Bamford is one of the names behind the company

This stinks.

Grayling is in charge of it so it's bound to be alright.

Details of ships crew released, they promise a pucka service and a free drink once they work out which part is the front of the boat.

As it comes down to the wire, the very people responsible for the mess will now direct large sums of money to themselves and accompanying ne'er-do-well nephews, cousins, and brothers-in-law in the name of mitigating various disasters after previously assuring all concerned that no such outcome would occur.

ETA: Also worth watching to see how many government services are erected or expanded through contracting/privatization.

Like the French company being hired to produce post-Brexit UK passports, I'm somewhat amused they've chosen a pair of Danish and French shipping companies to provide the bulk of the ferry services.. :)

I don't know if it's featured much in reporting I've not seen, but earliest archived version of the Seaborne Freight website only dates from 15 August 2018, although it looks like the domain was first registered by a hosting company in 2011.

It's worth noting that there is a well-established company in the field named Seabourne. One would like to think that the one couldn't possible have been mistaken for the other, but these days....
