For our next "up yours, forrins" number, we should invent our very own numeral system to replace this foreign rubbish we're using.

Maybe make it base18, too, to celebrate our sovereignty and freedom from the EU's decimal hegemony.

Or maybe we should use different systems according to what we’re measuring. Say base 12 for lengths, base 16 for mass.

Or even use different bases for different places, so for length we could use base 12, then base 3, then base 22, then base 10, then base 8, then maybe base 3 again.

You guys can't get serious, Why not use a system that been in use for several millennia: The Sexagesimal system.
Is that the system whereby you will have to work well into your sixties because you will not be receiving a state pension in your old age?

Telegraph even tried to put and anti EU spin on the GPS story. We weren't 'Frozen out' we left the EU!
Bring back 12 pence = 1 shilling, 20 shillings = 1 pound. 21 shillings in a guinea.

A satnav system for one country when there are already systems out there?
Given that China, Russia, India and Japan have all been putting up their own positioning satellites despite the US GPS being available, presumably there are reasons and we should expect more in the future.

The main reason being that other countries do not wish to be at the mercy of the US Pentagon military agenda for access to a GPS system.

Here's an interesting article on the subject.

I have seen a lot of awful jingoistic and ahistorical drivel in the last few years, but for the Daily Mail to cast VE Day as “Britain’s Victory OVER Europe” in their commemorative coin offer is a new low.
Shameful

How will the DM commemorate the news that COVID-19 deaths have exceeded deaths from the Blitz?

Someone will play Vera Lynn.

Someone always plays Vera Lynn.

I have nothing against bluebirds, Dover or white cliffs, but It annoys the **** out of me cos:

- it's not 1942
- we're not at war

There was a source book for the Call of Cthulhu rpg that explained pre decimal coinage in detail. It took about half a page, then finished with the sentence "The British resisted decimalisation on the grounds it was considered too complicated".

Well, if you have 12 fingers, decimal is probably confusing

Interesting article. From it:
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom, which is expected to leave the European Union in March following the referendum over Brexit, will most likely lose access to the EU’s Galileo positioning system, and is planning to launch its own. As for Galileo itself, it is expected to be fully operational in 2019.
It was published in December, 2018 so it's about 2½ years old. Given that Brexit has not been the financial boon that was promised, what has been the fate of the UK's own GPS system?

Wording is sometimes important, remember we weren’t locked out of it, we decided we didn’t want to be part of it.

Well, there isa regulation insisted on by he UK not to allow 'Third Party Countries' have access to the system.

Even if you don't, base 12 has some conveniences. Division by 2, 3, 4 and 6 becomes very easy. Base 10 has easy division by 2 and 5. The former is a more useful set than the latter.
