I am curious what this observation regarding the events of the Crusades has to do with modern day Israel?

Nothing, really, except that this fervent pro-Israel position is espoused by someone touting a an avatar of a not so pro-jewish, if outdated, holy warrior. I thought that was somewhat counter-intuitive.

Rule #1 in discussions about Israel is that every shred of criticism of someone else than Israel can be deflected by a "but X do it too!!!!!!111111" dodge, no matter how ridiculous.

If this is directed at my comment, I'd like to respond, but I find it hard to parse the sentence in a way that makes sense.
