Merged Boston Marathon CTs

Interesting that. Often times, here in this venue proclaiming "skepticism" I see speculative theories of conspiracies discounted for one discrepancy in many claims. And rightfully so, we must presume that if one point is exaggerated or contrived, the entire story is suspect.

So I simply point out a similar flaw in your response -- not necessarily playing tit-for-tat, but there it is -- and suddenly it's disgusting.

Yes, there are still misinformed and ill-prepared members on ATS poking about the scraps of bottom-feeders. There are even a few proclaiming false-flag. However, my point was, the majority of comments are attempting to be more pragmatic than what we're seeing elsewhere in the "conspiracy universe."

I'm sorry you're unable to accept a nit-pick on one of your points, and that it resulted in your disgust for me rather than adult conversation.

The "You disgust me" that I quoted was the closing line when I replied. Thanks for removing it. Maybe we can approach adult conversation. Beer?

You are right. My comment was made in haste. Its the people on the site that disgust me, not you. I do think that you promotion of conspiracy theories by running the site is morally dubious at best, and potentially harmful at worst because you encourage mentally unstable people. I consider you like I would the CEO of a company that dumps toxic waste in the river. Its not your fault personally, but you know whats going on and you profit from it. That doesn't mean the company doesn't do good works or charity - AKA the ATS "diamonds in the rough" - and when it does those things it should be recognized for the good it does.

Im glad you characterized what you said as a nitpick, because that is what it is. And it missed the point of the post - if I had said "here are the overwhelming themes of conspiracy mongering on ATS right now" - you would have a 100% valid point. That was not my point. I stated what I believed to be the major themes which would occur in the coming days. I may still be wrong, at which point you can gladly point that out, but that time has not come yet.

I would love to have a beer with you to pick your mind some day about why you run ATS. I mean I know its good money, but you show you are a rational thinker here - this is more rational thinking than 99% of your user base. You have moments of even encouraging skeptical thinking on the site (like banning the promotion of OPPT). How can you understand rational thinking and yet run a site that encourages so much the opposite, especially on days like this when within hours a not-insignificant portion of your users are proclaiming conspiracy?

Yes, its true - reddit and twitter are both in many ways on the same page right now in terms of embracing lunacy. And while its equally shameful, those sites don't exist to promote conspiracies. They crop up on days like this, its true, but for the most part 95% of the site content on reddit for example has nothing to do with conspiracies. Its not their reason for existence, its not what they make money from. In fact on reddit I see a very large amount of people down voting the conspiracy posts. Maybe if you added something like that to ATS the lunatic fringe wouldn't dominate all the top threads?

Lately, I've not been too involved on a day-to-day basis. The original and standing rationale is that one cannot suppose to be a staunch advocate of free expression without also embracing that which you abhor. (feel free to fill in the blanks on that one; knowing there are conspiracies that interest me) And I've also been very passionate about online communities since I ran CompuServe forums (ComputerArts), and especially in trying to maintain some form of civility.

I mean I know its good money,
Oh god... I seriously don't know where that meme started. It's not. Seriously.

Because I like to believe I represent a true skeptic... which is someone who doubts the "official" story -- no matter the source, either conspiracist or mainstream -- and comes to their own conclusion through research and reflection. A true skeptic holds no preconceived position other than doubt.

If not me then who?

Seriously. Baby steps.

As you've said, the conversations on ATS aren't as wild-eyed as elsewhere (cough, Jones), and most members do appreciate the ban on Sandy Hook, no-Planes, Billy Meier, etc. They're just not as vocal as the minority.

By the way, if you ever get to Scottsdale, AZ, the beer is on me. Like micro-brew?

But why do you have to embrace letting people spread the conspiracy lunacy instead of just allowing them to do so. This forum is an example of what I mean. We talk about conspiracies on the JREF, and conspiracy theorists can and do post on here freely - no one is censored. One of the top threads in here right now is someone conspiracy mongering about North Korea, for example.

I believe in free expression too - even for conspiracy theorists. But allowing people to conspiracy monger versus creating an environment that fosters and encourages it is I think two very different things. And if you don't make any money off it (by the way, I don't know how ATS doesn't make any money - all the mods are volunteer, you have ads, and a ton of traffic) - why do this? What I mean by "encouraging" is doing things like providing the 2012 forum, the "skunk works" forum, etc. Forums which clearly exist for wild, completely unsubstantiated, insane conspiracies that don't even have one tiny ounce of support. Unless something changes - and I find no reason to believe it will - there is going to be 0 evidence for Boston Marathon conspiracy mongering just like there was none for Sandy Hook.

(And thanks for the invitation, deal! Love micro-brew!)

Semantics.

It's not all lunacy, and there have been bon-a-filed results because of some of our deeper threads. Most recently, stopped the wild mustang slaughter for a while because of our focus and awareness building. And when it returned, it was with better management, less suffering, and more justification.

I guess I'm one who can tolerate what you describe as the lunacy, for the occasional victory. (We also got the FBI to remove counterfeit Cisco routers made in China from secure installations.)

why do this?
I've learned a great deal. Isn't that why rational people do anything?

If the fascist US regime thinks it can avoid the Holmes-like detective skills of ATS's finest, they better wake up and smell the RedBull!

So why were guys in full military fatigues going in AHEAD of the police even before the smoke cleared? Just want to get that on record. Was watching this live and saw two guys in full military fatigues going in ahead of the police 10 seconds after the explosion. They didn't even evacuate they just ran straight in like they knew how many bombs were going to go off and that they were safe.

This whole thing smells. When did it become the job of the military to respond on American soil? The Cops were following the guys in fatigues for crying out loud. This whole thing screams false flag. I am guessing there is legislation they are having a hard time getting through so they need to put the sheeple to sleep.

All glory is Gods, indeed.

And... the first direct reply to that comment states...
The guys in military fatigues were simply following instinct and were faster than the cops. Nothing to dwell in!

The only thing that smells is your poor attempt at elitism with the whole tired "sheeple" vocab.

Which received more member "stars" than the original.

Wow, stars and more cookies than you can clean up. I remember now why I stopped visiting ATS;
Editor sucks, and cookies don't taste good. I just went there and left quickly... the cookies were steaming in. That is a lot of cookies. ATS is almost as bad as CNN or USA Today - as a web page with too much overhead. Yes, there are rational posters at ATS.

Who is we?

It is sad people make up lies about things, like today's event before thinking twice. No matter who did it, there will be stories made up by idiots. Like 911 truth, or Bigfoot, Chemtrails, JFK, moon-landing etc...

I represent a true skeptic... which is someone who doubts the "official" story and comes to their own conclusion through research and reflection.
Repeating the JREF ideal is not needed; you are expected to be a skeptic - JREF poster.

I have a solid twenty bucks that this thing goes the way of Sandy Hook in about 3 weeks before people stop talking about it

clueforum

It's ugly over there.

I don't know how those scum can sleep at night:

I laughed so hard at these pictures.

They look like the aftermath of a basic college/uni party rather than anything else.

They are busy congratulating themselves at how clever they are at seeing through the lies. These, and I would put money it, are the exact same sort of people who are responsible for this terrible tragedy.

It's already there in some regard.

People will never stop talking about it. Prepare for the analysis of 360p low-res YouTube videos that prove the runners were CGI with legs that appear and disappear.

I wish I hadn't clicked on that link. I didn't even know clueforum existed. Those people are beyond sick. They are laughing at people who are horribly injured and trying to find clues in the speed of peoples reaction etc. Sick just sick.

I also regret clicking on that link, I read through a few pages and reactions to the graphic images...these people are even sicker than I thought. Unbelievable.
