Another group of people fail to realise that one of the more effective ways to defeat the BNP is to not make them into free speech martyrs. Putty-faced Griffin's hardly a Galileo.

The British National Party has voted to scrap its whites-only membership rules after an extraordinary general meeting.

Members who had gathered in Essex voted to amend the party's constitution to let black and Asian people join.

The BNP had been threatened with a possible court injunction over its whites-only membership policy by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

The party must now go back to court in March when a judge will decide if the new rules meet race relation laws.

I may be missing something, but why aren't the black policeman's association told to change their rules?

It is thought the BNP has removed references to "indigenous British" people, paving the way for black and Asian people to be admitted to the party for the first time.

I'm sure they will be queuing up to join a racist organisation that considers there to be no such thing as a black Englishman.

If I were a Black Englishman I would rush to join before they change the membership back! Before they know it, the BNP would be 50% or so Black and Pakistani and that would be the end of their politics in terms of appealing to any voters at all...

The BNP is going to try to loose its more 'extreme' elements so they can pick up more voters from UKIP and people who feel disenfranchised by both the labour party and the Tories but still don't want to be seen as being 'racist'.

Though i wonder if this will simply be de jure rather than de facto.

the Black Policeman's Association is a fraternal group, not a political one.

Just like how I would not try to join the Irish society, Italian Society, or Hispanic Society, of the government agency I work for. should they be allowed to limit their membership to folks who are at least 1/2 Irish or Italian or Hispanic? surely.

Well they aren't a political party so there is a difference in type of organisation but I don't know what the legislation is that covers something like the BPAs.

Political parties, that seek power in Parliament, and even to become part of a governing coalition, CANNOT discriminate by race, sex, religion, ethnicity, etc.
