Bloomberg for President?

hmm...

If Sanders get the nom, which is increasingly likely, and Bloomberg has vowed to campaign for the nominee on his own terms......it'll be interesting how that plays out in the general.

Perhaps Bloomberg will focus on attacking Trump instead of lifting Sanders. Bloomberg will have to find a way to help Sanders while maintaining his dignity.

I think, in an odd way, that is the core appeal of Bloomberg that he genuinely seems like he doesn't give that much of a **** about actually being President. His ego doesn't depend on it, and neither does his career.

He doesn't appear to be in a rush to get on the debate stage or address his controversies.

He doesn't give a damn.

He hasn't been allowed to be on the Debate Stage. The DNC had rules about having to have a certain number of donors to your campaign to be allowed in the debates. Hard to do that when you only have one donor. Because of his campaign pushing for it, they dropped the rules, which should allow him to be in the final debate.

Sanders is right that a Bloomberg is trying to buy the Presidency - but he might be wrong that a majority of voters would like object to that.
As long as he doesn't buy-off Special Interests like the Unions of Old or Church Leaders, but instead puts the money into a ground campaign, I think voters will not hold it against him that he is spending is money, money he didn't inherit.

I honestly don't see a big difference between someone buying their add space with millions of their own money and buying it with millions of other people's money, in fact putting their own money on the line for their beliefs is kinda better than fleecing their supporters who earn a pittance of what the candidates do in my eyes. I'd have more respect for Bernie if he was dropping some of his book money into the pot instead of getting millions from hard up young people who unlike him, likely have a negative net worth.

I would like some skilled right-wing CT nerd explain to me how Bloomberg might recuperate his campaign funds through being President.

It can't be just for some additional subscribers to Bloomberg Businessweek...

Lots of questions about how it would play out...

- Would Bloomberg follow through with the promise to support whomever the nominee is? And if so, what form would it take? (Massive ad buys? Or just showing up at a campaign rally? Putting a 'vote democrat' bumper sticker on his car?)

- Could Bloomberg even run pro-sanders ads? I know there are various rules about what SuperPACs can do; I'm not sure if individually funded ads fall under the same rules.

- Would Sanders even want Bloomberg's help? After all, since he's built his campaign on representing the "little people", accepting the assistance of a billionaire might make him seem a bit hypocritical

I think Bloomberg will just keep trolling Trump.
Possibly.

Interesting comparison between the 2 candidates if that does happen:

- Bloomberg loses but keeps hammering at Trump, doing his best to advance the cause of the Democrats

- Sanders, in 2016, stuck around the primaries long past the point where he was a viable candidate, and after the election returned to being an Independent.

That's an easy one: Foreign investment in Bloomberg's portfolio, increasing its value in exchange for favorable treatment in negotiations.

It's basically the same CT that gets trotted out regarding the intersection between donations to the Clinton charity and access to Secretary of State Clinton (AP News).

It's also, as I understand it, the same CT that gets trotted out regarding people booking a stay at a Trump hotel, to ingratiate themselves with the current President.

Step down from all official roles running Bloomberg , preferably putting family members or trusted proxies (he mostly did this to run for NYC Mayor) in puppet positions. Retain stock. Send Federal business Bloomberg's way, pressure lobbyists, foreign countries etc to do the same. Profit!

Bloomberg out with a new ad attacking Bernie for his toxic online supporters.

Just so we're all clear, online trolls ****-posting is abuse and disqualifying. Stop and frisk is a big oopsie and can be set aside with a quick apology.

I've never seen Bernie encourage his supporters to be petulant children. I've seen him do the exact opposite.

I just heard a Bloomberg commercial on the way back from lunch. It seemed like a compilation of quotes form speeches. It was the first time I had heard more than a snippet of his voice. It is grating and irritating. Not Trump levels of grating, but more annoying than Klobuchar. And that was in a commercial produced by his team. I wonder how annoying he will be on a stage.

“Cokehead, womanizing, fag.” That’s the way Michael Bloomberg once characterized a competitor in New York’s financial industry

“What do I want? I want an exclusive, 10-year contract, an automatic extension, and I want you to pay me. And I want a blow job from [name redacted]. Have you seen [name redacted] lately? Not bad for fifty.”

Interesting article at the link. I wonder if it will change anyone's mind?
