Started working through Exploring Black Holes: Introduction to General Relativity and I must say I am fairly impressed with the way the authors avoid making the text dry (even geometric mass was made understandable). The authors say that Black Holes and Times Warps by Kip Thorne and Stephen Hawking is a "companion" since it continues along with some questions their text doesn't expound on. As a little gift to myself, I ordered Spacetime Physics and Black Holes and Times Warps. Judging from Exploring Black Holes: Introduction to General Relativity, Spacetime Physics should be an excellent read.

Probably way below the level your interested in, but I found a special edition Scientific American Reports mag on the magazine rack. "Reality-Bending Black Holes".
I'm a little slow on the uptake, so I'm taking my time going through it, but it's interesting for a non-collage type like me anyway. Talks about the first speculations, and disputes about the possibilities of Black Holes. Goes into Worm Holes a bit (haven't read that section yet).
From the cover -
"Quantum Holes, Spacetime probes created on earth."
"Star-Making Machines Powered by supermassive sinkholes?"
"Mysterious Burst Radiation sources now revealed"
Einstein's Brainchild What his equations foretold"
Seems to cover a lot of the information on Black Holes, and related Astro stuff.
So far it doesn't read like Rocket Science
While it's not dated, it does say "Display until June 12, 2007" , and Volume 17, Number 1, 2007.

Skimmed through it, and don't see his name as author of any of the articles, or listed in the references.
There are actually about 11 articles in the magazine, all touching on subjects related to Black Holes in one way or another I believe.
Just picked it up yesterday, and again, taking my time reading it. Letting it soak through this thick skull of mine
Got the Kip Thorne book yesterday and Spacetime physics today. The Kip Thorne book (what I have read) seems really good and it appears to compliment EBH by Taylor and Wheeler. I have skimmed through the beginning of Spacetime Physics and it too seems very good. Looks like I'm going to be busy for a while. BTW, if anybody is interested.
