"Black face" skit on Australian variety show

No one is going to confuse me with a card carrying NAACP member so I think this is what really has me hacked about the responses from our Australian members. They can talk all the **** they want about Americans and America, but God forbid we don't hold our tongues if we something in Australia that we feel warrents criticism. Even if it's something like an effin TV show.

I can only speak for myself here, and all I can say is let fly at me if you've got any decent Aussie-bashers to tell. Honest! The wit and wisdom of the Forum is the reason I'm here and I don't care if I'm the one getting the rough end of the pineapple.

I'd hoped I've made enough seppo friends here that it's obvious I like jokes that take the naughtyurineword out of Australia as much as anyone, even those fruitcakes from Aotearoa.

Having read all the contributions, I'm starting to change my opinion. I think most people agree that it would have been better if the skit did not go ahead. I think it's also clear that this event does not mean Australia is a racist nation (it may be, but this is not good evidence).

But today no person or nation lives in a bubble. Offensive telecasts in Gaza and Iran will be broadcast worldwide and, while acceptable in the country of origin, will be judged harshly elsewhere. That's where we stand. People overseas have the right to be offended and people like PM Rudd and DPM Gillard should apologise.

It's a bit of a read, however, I can't help but think that not only the content, but the style of the posters there will provide some insights into the Australian psyche.

No one is saying that Americans can not have an opinion. The problem is with people who assume that Australians must have the same intentions behind their actions as Americans. Those people have been making blanket assumptions about the Australians who performed the skit, put it to air and ultimately about the entirety of Australian society and refuse to accept that their assumptions are wrong.

The prime offender in this has been GreyICE. His contributions in this thread have been pathetic but not as pathetic as his contributions to this thread where he refused to accept that a word could possibly have a different definition outside America.
