Merged bin Laden's death / bin Laden not really dead CTs

Musy,

What everyone has said ITT is absolutely true. 100% facts.

We don't let anyone have access to our working equipment for obvious reasons.

Also, the money is not an issue. Especially if they had to sit around and wait, the Pakistani's might have thought that we were someone else, and decided to kill all the troops there. It's not like they had a 10'x12' Stars and Bars flying off the back.

I can almost guarantee that none of those guys had anything on them that would identify who they were. No nametapes, no insignia, nothing. I would even go so far as to say the only thing they had was their blood type on them just in case.

This was one of those "Who?" kinda situations.

But, thank FSM that nobody on the US side was injured or killed.

Besides, even if this were a truly odd occurrance, lots of things are going to happen that "don't add up". That's because we don't and never will know everything. It's the freakin' CIA. They are spies, not the public library. No, you can't check that book out.

It's standard operating procedure to destroy a downed helicopter or other immobilized equipment during a special forces operation.
It would also be a great cover one way or the other to confuse those in the area and cover the departure. The bad guys think they failed, the good guys sneak out the back door.

It would likely have had plenty of hi-tech secure comms and other "special" equipment on board that the US military sort of likes to keep to itself. That would have to be obliterated, for obvious reasons.

The helicopter aircraft itself (assuming it was not some special stealth design also) would be the least of their worries - chances are Pakistan already has some, or some pretty much like it. It simply had to be rendered unflyable; very easy with a chopper.

Anyway, in the usual course of running their stuff day-to-day, the US military loses helicopters to crashes and other mishaps on a regular basis. So the cost of losing just one more on a raid like this is immaterial.

When one is ignorant of ALL aspects of the circumstances surrounding an event, playing the "I would do it different" game is the height of arrogance and over inflated feelings of self worth.

America just cant win. SEALs the conservationists they are, accidently mess up a part of Pakistan with their rubbish. These brave men stop in the middle of a fire fight to clean their trash up...And still people complain

This is how it was originally reported in Pakistan before Obama made his Osama annoucement
ABBOTABAD:
A helicopter crashed in Abbottabad near the Pakistan Military Academy Kakul late on Sunday night, police sources said.

The chopper was seen flying low before it crashed, locals said. The sound of gunfire and two small blasts was heard before a massive explosion, sources said.

They added that the third blast damaged windowpanes of the area houses. This was stated to be the first incident of its kind in Abbottabad at night.

The sources said the helicopter fell down in a plot in Sikandarbad, a populated area of the city, spreading panic through the neighbourhood.

The sound of the explosion was heard as far afield as 10 kilometres, the sources added.

And Navy SEALs. Don't forget the guys who were the boots on the ground in this incident.

But yep: no way we're going to get all or most of the details on this dance. This one likely has more than just US intelligence and military involved, and neither the US nor anyone else who may or may not have allegedly played a role leading up to it is going to want to speak of it publicly.

If you remember there was a bit of a furore caused when the US blew up a downed F-15 in Libya despite the fact that NATO's rebel "allies" were in the surrounding area and some were killed or injured.

So, it's not unprecendented by any stretch. In fact, it is almost certainly an SOP as others have mentioned.

On top of that, Pakistan has to be the all-time least reliable/trustworthy ally given that the ISI are always turning up in terrorist training camps and bin Laden himself felt quite at home there despite being surrounded by Pakistani troops and security operatives.

Even if they did, why would Pakistanis recognize the Confederate flag?

LOL!! Yeah, thanks lade, that should read "Stars and Stripes", not the Confederate flag called the "Stars and Bars".

But hey, maybe Horatious will make another comic about my misspeaking/typos!!

SEALS are a uniformed force and nothing about this operation was exactly subtle. If things had gone wrong there would have been little point in trying to hide who was involved.

I couldn't agree more. About as subtle as a sledgehammer. :D

Very true. But, even pilots flying regualr missions have "sanitized" uniforms.

My point being, (yes, I wasn't very clear on it) that it's not like our guys went in there wearing their dress A's.

Bin Laden In The Witness Protection Program?

Someone on another forum speculated that Osama Bin Laden has gone in the US Witness protection program.

It makes sense in a weird sort of way.

(Mods, if I posted this in the wrong forum, please move it.) :D

Makes total sense. Why would the US kill him when they could simply buy him a house and set him up with a nice life?

Because sticking him in a dark hole and pouring a gallon of water up his nose and seeing what spews out his pie-hole twice a day would just be silly.
