Bin Laden Dead Truthers Mourn

In death, we all become equal. There is no point in not treating a dead body with due respect, even OBL's. It has nothing toi with what the man was or did during life.

I agree that there is no point in going out of your way to cause disrespect. But I would submit that you should not avoid doing things that have value for you for religious superstitions that you probably are over-interpreting.

For example I would expect a full autopsy medical examination, if only to put the bed the kidney story. It seems likely to be untrue, but nothing like checking the body.

Why didn't any Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) sharp shooters (the best in the world) hit OBL's gun hand and legs, capture him alive, and collect the $25 million reward? Plus, there was an $2 million bonus from the Airline Pilots Association.

Reading for comprehension bites you in the ass again.

Plus, OBL was a potential wealth of Intel about terrorist groups, and capture elusion, through interrogation and cross examination at a trial. Bin Laden walked with a cane. Anyone on JSOC could have outrun him.

The FBI's 10 Most Wanted Terrorists list never charged OBL with 9/11.

USAMA BIN LADEN
Murder of U.S. Nationals Outside the United States; Conspiracy to Murder U.S. Nationals Outside the United States; Attack on a Federal Facility Resulting in Death

REWARD: The Rewards For Justice Program, United States Department of State, is offering a reward of up to $25 million for information leading directly to the apprehension or conviction of Usama Bin Laden. An additional $2 million is being offered through a program developed and funded by the Airline Pilots Association and the Air Transport Association.

Usama Bin Laden is wanted in connection with the August 7, 1998, bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya. These attacks killed over 200 people. In addition, Bin Laden is a suspect in other terrorist attacks throughout the world.
Bin Laden is the leader of a terrorist organization known as Al-Qaeda, "The Base". He is left-handed and walks with a cane.

There, I hilited the word you seem to have missed.

The JSOC wouldn't have been eligable, as they are the ones carrying out their duties.

Personally I think they should have tried to capture him... at this time we don't have enough information as to what exactly happened...

maybe they did try to capture him, and he went down "guns blazing." of course it could also be that some over zealous SEAL decided that he was just going to put a round through his eyes.

or they may have shot to disable him, and because he is an old man, he bled out. Or maybe his own guards gunned him down to make sure the US didn't get him..

all of this is speculation. We need to wait for facts.

Pretty solid post.

It is a shame that he wasn't captured alive. I'm pretty sure that OBL wouldn't have let that happen...but it would have been great to see OBL in just as gross a picture as the one we have of KSM:

The American crowds are cheering. We don't have to endure any more fake Bin Laden broadcasts.

Obama said he made the order to "bring Bin Laden to justice".
So that means killing someone who was never indicted for the crime of 9/11, even if he was charged with other crimes, without a trial? Even Charles Manson got a trial.
The JSOC could have taken him alive. Sharp shooters can hit his gun hand, and outrun a man needing a cane.
We would have gotten a wealth of Intel from Bin Laden through interrogation and cross examination.
This is the new American "justice" that we want to bring to the world?
Dead men don't plead not guilty.

Wow. Did you bitch when we killed the Somoli pirates that had taken the tanker's crew hostage?

Nobody gives a rats rear what you think should have been done. I am sure that they had every intention of taking him alive. But, when our military is being shot at, they defend themself. Right to his brain.

Cheers to the guys who killed him! Beers and shots on me if I ever get the chance.

They buried him at sea. Where is the body? It is a cover-up I tell ya :)

There's no place for you idiots in this thread.

I am not saying a professional military/security would not have genotyped OBL to confirm his death. I just don't think they invested in setting up a purpose built sequencing facility on a military base in Afghanistan on the off-chance that he might turn up over the next 10 years. Let alone having trained technicians on stand-by doing absolutely nothing for ten years waiting for OBL to turn up.

Flying a sample to the US for sequencing would only add 24 hours to the identification process.

Here's the problem LGR.

This was not done on a whim. There was planning that went with this. CNN said last night that the guys who did this went through a few drills to practice what they were doing.

It is possible that the USG, in anticipation of the turn of events, could have had the necessary equipment and people in place before hand, if needed.

The whole thing didn't take 2 hours to plan. I think it was more like a month or so.

Actually depending on time of death there wasn't even enough time to move his body to Afghanistan and run a genotyping. There is sample preparation, prepare the cocktail, run the PCR reaction, clean up the PCR reaction, load the ABI 370, go through the warm-up and calibraton, run the sample, analyse the data and call the genotypes. 5 hours is a very reasonable minimum.

A sequencing machine is not something you cart around the world at a whim. It is large and heavy and takes a while to set up - you need specialised personal to run it, you trained people to score genotypes and run comparisions, I struggle to see the point to expedite by no more than 24 hours a DNA confirmation.

Our top Special Ops team, with night vision goggles, that could hit a dime from far away, could not hit his gun hand?
I have more faith in the skills of our JSOC. They are the best of the best. They can catch a sick man with a cane.
Probably they could shoot down the barrel of Bin Laden's gun, rendering it harmless.

This is a lifetime Stundie achievement award winner right here. :boggled:

Israelis are usually fairly proud about capturing and trying Eichmann rather than just shooting him on the spot.

And just how big and bad was Eichmann's army on Garibaldi Street?

No idea, but they seemed to have no problem picking up Khalid Sheik Mohammed in a dawn raid, so if it was good enough for the #2, why not #1?.....

Yes you do. Eichmann did not live in a fortified compound. From what I have read, neither did KSM. My guess is you will come up with more irrelevant comparisons.

Hollywood has a lot to answer for.

Simply put: because it's nearly impossible. There are a load of big ol' arteries in the limbs, and if even one gets opened, OBL's dead long before he gets anywhere near proper treatment. In some cases, he could be shot in the limbs while sitting on a bed in the best ER in the world, and the doctors still wouldn't be able to save him. The disarming/disabling shot is a Hollywood myth, and anyone handling a gun is usually be told, emphatically, that if you're shooting at someone, shoot to kill.

QFT. I still see idiots here when there's been a police shooting (mercifully rare, but 2 today in Melbourne) argue that the coppers should have shot for the legs or shot at the weapon. When a gun is drawn by police and the military, there's only one place to aim. The body mass.

No. Crying for truth, justice, and the American way.
Killing anyone, when he could be brought to trial, is not our way.
Our top special ops force could not capture an old man with a cane alive?
Sharp shooters who could shoot a dime, could not shoot his gun hand?
Our Founding Fathers would be ashamed.

Presumably, he did not come peacefully. Presumably, he had no intention of being taken alive. Why should he want that?
