I think norseman is a true open mind here, based on his claim to have seen "postholed" footprints in deep snow. Why he doesn't just accept that he most likely saw bounding impressions from some quadruped, I do not know.

Didn't he see them with his father? I think maybe that shared experience has something to do with it. Don't forget, he buys into the Skookum Elk Lay Meldrum Nonsense as well. If he's as experienced in the out of doors as he claims, he should know better.

That's his lynch pin evidence as far as I know and get the whole with your Dad thing for sure.
I was or maybe still am a member of Project Grendal and he does seem or did appear pretty open minded and fun to banter with...he doesn't take it personal...good guy all round IMO.
But his Achilles heal on the subject is his interpetation of track evidence and report volume.
He and BobbyO are really not that far removed from DWAs stance in regards to "all these reports must mean something...lets build a data base and map that will help narrow down the search" just never got that mentality.
But that aside theres no doubt in my mind he'd be a blast to spend a week with in the woods!

Oh it's bigfoot....this gal claims to have seen them smoking in her backyard, hovering in front of a 2nd story window upside down and wearing a cougar head cap with cape!
She's the queen bee of the Habs on BFF(Bigfoot Fantasy w/Friends)

She's a long term habitator/knower/chosen one....the Bigfoot elite ;)
Often submitted garbage as "proof" then when you called her out, she would withhold the good stuff she claims to have.
She has a little cultish group of minions Sunflower, Leaftalker, Painthorse, Sweesusq, The Phaigie and few others that all subscride to something along the lines of at one with Bigfoot hippie type malarkey.
She's made her mark by being an expert at trolling, baiting, condescension, all the while skirting the forum rules but producing nothing to support her claims.
They are there right now defending a hoaxer TJ who submitted things like this at his Bigfoot habitation site..

Top left is the eye of a Bigfoot self portrait/fish eye
Top right is a juvi Bigfoot nibblings on a apple/squirrel
The lower photos are bigfoot handprints left on his car/human fabrication
They buy into the Bigfoot buddy in your backyard syndrome, no need to go anywhere just hang out on the deck they'll show up...but only if your one of the chosen ones ;)

This sorta reminds me of the story of my Van Halen concert t-shirt. I have a couple of cousins that are a few years older than me, and when I was a kid, my aunt would send me boxes of their hand-me-down clothes. Most of the time it was crap that I would never wear, but in one box was a gem....a Van Halen "Diver Down" concert t-shirt.

I loved that shirt. Van Halen was near the peak of their popularity, and I would always get compliments on the shirt...and inevitably people would ask if I saw the show. At first, I was truthful, and said no.... and they would almost seem disappointed..so one day, I told a fib, and said I did see the concert....and people thought that was really cool. The story grew over the months, and I added more details. (like the girl flashing her boobs to David Lee Roth) Eventually, I almost began to believe I really did see Van Halen in concert.

I think the same sorta thing happens in the BF community.

He and his father saw the mysterious tracks. And as far as I could gather, the tracks were mysterious. The problem is that the bipedal ape idea wouldn't be a good explanation for the tracks even if we granted it as an option.

I think the mystery grew with every remembering and re-telling. We have no idea what they saw (they obviously didn't) but The Shrike's bounding quadraped hypothesis is most likely. As you noted, certainly more likely than an undiscovered bipedal ape

Between the leg-humping I get from Sweaty, DWA, Neanderfoot, Bigfoothunter, PBeaton, and Roguefooter, it is a wonder I can walk. It is vigorous.

It would be helpful if more than a third of them could form coherent sentences and thoughts. Light bulb jokes come to mind.

There are a lot of different roles you can play, including the role of the skeptic who says we have to wait until the next idiotic bigfoot stunt is finished before we are allowed to conclude it doesn't exist - chiding us during the ramp-up of The Melba's idiocy as if the last thousand years didn't matter; chiding people who understand that thousand years as if they were completely closed-minded for knowing Sykes wasn't going to find a heretofore unknown primate in his DNA testing of known hoaxers' samples.

Saying something stupid and having people run off to proof-check is power. You can be a lazy, low-intellect person and have PhD's whom you resent on their knees begging you to be reasonable.

Lying relentlessly about the BLAARGing hypothesis is fun for one poster here. All of us acknowledge there are true believers. That is the reality. The alternate reality is the one this poster incessantly fronts - the straw man claim that we don't think there has ever been a true believer ever.

That is by definition BLAARGing. It is an alternate reality in the bigfoot arena, he does not believe it himself, but he obviously likes doing it. Dozens of times he has been corrected on this by a large number of posters.

This is a variant of a common ploy based on the fallacy of the golden middle. You paint 'footers as one extreme, paint skeptics as the other extreme, and you are the one reasonable person in the room. The truth is that this relentless lying about what others believe is extraordinarily unreasonable. It would never have been said in the first place by anyone paying the slightest attention to these threads, but even then just one correction would be enough for a reasonable person to never say it again. So this alternate reality role is quite important to him.

We have to acknowledge the more general nature of BLAARGing. The alternate reality roles are not limited to the non-believer who wants people to think he believes.

Is that a real fallacy? The closest thing I can think of is argument in moderation, where the truth is supposed to be found as a compromise, but that's not the same as what you're suggesting.

All I can say is your a good man in your attempt to lure them back to reality. I think the problem is you've handed them their own butts so many times they only have one response....attack the evil Kit!!!
 
I have no illusions about luring the allcaps howlers back to reality. Fortean addiction is just that, an addiction, and if you're going to have your Martian Civilization and Bigfoot cake and eat it to, anything I say is bullets to The Hulk for them. Some of these people become so incoherent when challenged that I generally wonder how they do simple things we take for granted. The predictability is quite something to watch.

I can take a simple innocuous phrase introduced and argued by Bill Munns, in this case "Patty is no spring chicken," and state it in my own post as my own words. Simply by the virtue that I said it these fundamentalists will jump on it.

There is no luring them back to reality because in that reality making posts that look like they were written by Zed McGlunk from Police Academy qualifies as effective communication.
 
I can't speak for other bigfooters, but a good recreation of the PGF (even with today's technology) would lure me back to reality.
