Bigfoot DNA

some interesting stuff about Next gen DNA

So i am now fooling around with what I believe is the same technology / company / technology that melba has put all her faith in.

In talking with the company tech advisors, and a few of my colleagues using this , a few things came out that i didn't previously know.

for you really hard core geeks, remember 4 or 5 years ago, when there was all this hooplah (in the bacteriology world) about this "hidden genome" . Several papers were written talking about how using illumina had allowed them to identify a whole hidden world of unknown bacteria? they were finding new and novel sequences in every sample, and large numbers of them!

turns out after all the hooplah settled down, most of that was simply a relict of the new sampling technology, and learning what was junk, and what was good sequence. And how to process those data and sort it out. once that was done, oops - sorry guys, we were wrong on all that hidden genome.

My point being, Illumina technology produces huge amounts of data all right, but you really need some experience and expertise in sorting it out.
turns out the power of the illumina system is that it can do a repeat of a segment 30 or 60 times, so you can compare each site read 30 - 50 - 60 times. using the older system we would just have 2 or 3 reads, to expensive, time consuming to go further than that.

The Illumina system is probably more prone to make a mistake on any single base pair, but since you get so many replicates, it allows for greater accuracy, through repetitive comparison.

So does Ketchum have that experience? don't know, certainly no public record, or paper with her as a author indicating any ability to do that.

Did someone else do the analysis for her? If so who? would this be all the pHDs on her "paper?.

We simply do't know.
weeks rather than months have passed, now we are into months. And this is the second claim of "weeks rather than months" the original was over a year ago, back when she was still intent on doing SNP's. When that didn't work, she pushed on grabbing the big bucks!

Anyway, It's just another piece of the puzzle, esspecially since there is now a brohaha over if it is justin, or BF DNA, the idea that the technology produces so much "noise" raises another red flag.

Just wanted to get us back on track here ladies and gentlemen

I would wait and see what Bryan Sykes has to say. He's way behind schedule, but he's been able to get more samples than he was originally aiming for. And even better, he's aware of Dr. Ketchum's claims on what Bigfoot is. I'm pretty excited about this because he will either validate or refute the recent claims on these alleged Sasquatch samples. Of course he doesn't have all the same samples that Dr. Ketchum has, but all it takes is one legitimate sample to make a discovery nowadays.

Sykes has already debunked a Russian sample as bear. and judging from the transparent nature of his study, nothing interesting seems to have been discovered as of yet. He would have released the information if it did.

like the typical footer I'd start getting paranoid thoughts about there being some sort of government coverup. jk lol. But I would think something went wrong.

now instead of believing that one of the most highly esteemed DNA scientists in the world did a quality and thorough study and found no bigfoot DNA, you would just assume something went wrong?

Yes. Sykes has what it takes! The stage has been set for a possible discovery now. Nothing like this has ever been done before. It could shed some much needed light once and for all on what the creature people call Bigfoot is.

You know what ever the BF might end up being it don't really matter to anyone involved, all the DNA in the world won't answer the question ~ Where is it?

Tim :)

what it is ? It's going to be people and bears and coyotes and such.

When it says this, what will your response be?

Will it be:

A) wow, perhaps Bigfoot isn't real after all?

or

B) Sykes made a mistake/didn't get any "real Bigfoot" samples?

No

Maybe Next Time Huh! ~

I will believe that bigfoot really exists when either;

a. We have a live one in a cage, or

b. We have a dead one on a slab

Until that time, bigfoot remains firmly in the imaginary realms of the unicorn, the yeti and the Loch Ness monster,

What about the Yowie? ;)

And the Unhealthy Amount of Bigfoot Hopes & Dreams award for this week goes to...yeah, you're right, it would be a rigged game. There's just no way The Melba could be wrong 'cause that would mean there's still NO Bigfoot and we know that's just not true. <closing eyes and putting fingers in ears> It's not true! It's not, it's not, it's not!

Nevermind, I see Parcher discussed it.

Actually, it would have to be a whole lot of somethings go wrong, for those that need to continue to believe.

You are focusing on the wrong paradigm. Sykes has some of the best provenanced, most highly regarded samples in the BF community. Vetted by none other than Dr. Meldrum.

The results are not simply this is or is not BF. The results will be specific species ID of each sample.

So if each and everyone comes back as a known animal, not only do you have a "no BF here" finding, but what you really have is 20 or 30 of the best most believed, best "supported" cases of purported BF, each being identified as an actual known animal. which means the background story is rubbish!

So there goes all of the supposed best evidence cases, in one fell swoop.

Pair that up with the claims from the Smeja camp, who although still completely believe in BF, have demonstrated that Melbas claims are in fact incorrect (Smejas claims are supported by well documented independant tests from 2 of the best labs in North America, each completely coaberating the others findings.) I do give him credit, that he is willing to allow his samples, and his story to be examined under the light of legitimate open scientific inquiry, as opposed to the "other" team here!

So you take the 20 or 30 best most believable stories with physical evidence, and all at once, each and every one of them are demonstrated to be completely false, and not only that, the real source of the sample is revealed.

to me, and I assume any normal thinking and questioning individual, is pretty damning evidence.

However to a true believer it will be a true sign that 3 of the best DNA labs in the world, scattered across 3 countries, on 2 continents, testing samples from all over the world, are all part of a giant government coverup conspiracy!

The first thing that went wrong was footers assigning too much credence in such an unholy alliance of misfits, morons, maniacs and miscreants.

Taking Sykes out of the equation of course. And even that's provisional.

......The results are not simply this is or is not BF. The results will be specific species ID of each sample.........

So, if Sykes were to find something that hasn't been found before, do you expect that it would simply come back as "unknown", or would you expect that it would be more closely categorised than that ("unknown primate", for instance)?

Mike

If he can identify a sample as specific as "North American Black Bear" he should be able to get as close as "unknown primate closely related to chimps, or orang's or humans"
