Description of Work: A film and/or documentary, narration or audio book, supporting photos and literary paper/document/book that will follow the The Sasquatch Project, the scientist and the scientific testing and proof for the existence of Sasquatch/ Bigfoot. Information will include discussion of results including A New Tribe of Living Humans, the complete Sasquatch mitochondrial genome sequence and nuclear DNA variations and text will show complete mitochondrial (mt) genome sequences were identified from DNA, analysis of the assembled sequence unequivocally establishes that the Sasquatch mtDNA falls inside the range of modern human mtDNAs and discussions of the origins thereof. The proof that the Sasquatch is not only the closest living human relative but is actually a contemporary living human. Also discussed is nuclear DNA testing performed on the same samples and the variations found in various genes including MC1R gene RUNX2 and FOXP2 as well as other targets genes involved in the perception of sound, transmission of nerve signals, the production of sperm and the lactase gene. Also discussed is how testing has ruled out ape cross and any ancient contributor and that Sasquatch is indeed a modern human with some genetic mutations accounting for their physical appearance. Also included are discussion of the history of samples and circumstances surrounding the acquisition, their testing, the circumstances surrounding the entire Sasquatch DNA Project. THe Melba replies on FaceBook to the attention her copyright petition has generated:

Melba Ketchum
"To address the recent hype and misstatements concerning my paper, please be advised that the information pulled off the US Copyright website for a 2010 preregistration for a proposed media project is not an accurate summary of our scientific testing and data and does not reflect the current conclusions of our scientific paper. The contemplated media project was never produced and no update was ever made to the short description on the preregistration statement. Instead of working on proposed media projects, we have been focusing our time and energy on our ongoing scientific testing and data which will be accurately summarized in the final version of our scientific paper. The final paper presenting our data, analysis and updated conclusions will be published in a peer reviewed scientific journal but we do not have a publication date at this time."

The fact that she had the idea of a "Human Sasquatch" before she ever started working on samples speaks volumes to me. Oddly enough, the above appeared on my Facebook feed, but it does not appear on her page. (I'm "friends" with her on Facebook) I'll keep you posted if she says anything else.

Ah, yes, the FINAL paper. What does that mean, again? I anticipate that the facts will have changed. Really? Because, like she changed her mind even though she had all that data and stuff that made her write the copyright thing. That data stuff, you know, it changes while it's sitting there in your computer. I guess.

Yeah, especially update me on the stuff she writes at 3 am Saturday morning. I'll be waiting by the phone.

Too funny: I just went to Mr. Ketchum's er, I mean, David Paulides' site (he wrote "Tribal Bigfoot") and here is what he said about Melba's "Sasquatch: The Tribe Revealed":
1/23-There is much talk on the web about a release of data related to the DNA scientific paper, there assumptions would be incorrect. Dr. Ketchum filed a copyright application for a movie proposal based on early data received in testing, this has since changed. We are posting her application here so there is no misunderstandiung that we are trying to hide anything. The reality of the copyright is that the data that was released is no longer accurate and it will not encumber the scientific papers plausibility
emphasis added. LOL. the data that was released is no longer accurate.
oh, I see. It was data, it was accurate, but now it's not. Hmm. That may actually "encumber the plausibility."

I think I'll change my sig....

And that "scientific paper" will be released...... WHFO? (or when some journal that would publish hobo poo picks it up)

Dear Mr & Mrs Bigfooter, The uhm, dog ate my homewor... uhm papers and I cant turn them in just yet. In the mean time - Is it ok if I make plans before all this to release a DVD on the planned results before any testing and become a movie star?

This just keeps getting more interesting. You can't make this stuff up.

yes, and the interesting thing to me is that the players aren't anywhere near as clever as I gave them credit for. It's like that gang that couldn't shoot straight. I'm not sure these folks could even get the right cartridges into the gun. And of course it's now crystal clear to everyone with a cortex that it's all about the lucre.

I can hardly wait to see their application of probability theory to their data. And the stories that accompanied the specimens should be real convincing. "Honest, I saw this thing out by the still,...."

interesting take on The Melba and her claims:
It is not clear how many samples Ketchum tested, or where these samples came from, or how it would be known that the source was bigfoot/sasquatch, and not just some human being who might have left some blood on a barb wire fence or saliva on a discarded apple, or maybe my crazy uncle just spit in a jar and sent it in, with his usual wide eyed declaration of the truth of his latest tall tale. Given that the details are not well described, Over the Line, Smokey!, though not a genetics expert, feels pretty certain, regardless of what Ketchum wrote, that the 10 foot monster with glowing eyes is not of the same species as my mother. Or me. Or my son. And that those minor alterations in a few genes (we’ve all got those odds and ends hanging out) wouldn’t make my daughter’s feet grow to size 23. Besides, sounds like the alterations were all different. C’mon, Ketchum, I WAS born at night, but it wasn’t LAST NIGHT…..

Regular old human DNA means that whatever thing that DNA came from is part of our gene pool, freely interbreeding with the rest of us. I don’t know about you but for me, those “Bigfoot had my baby” or “I had Bigfoot’s baby” stories in the tabloids are strictly printed for The Stupids demographic.

I too saw the licking bigfoot today on Bigfoot Evidence. I keep expecting some kind of tongue in cheek reference but it just never happens. These folks are holding thier collective breath waiting for the dna kill shot, the perfectly clear video or whatever that will make every scientist/skeptic eat an entire mountain of crow. I have only lately come to realize what a competition this is between believers and skeptics and that belief knows no bounds. I have only been looking at bigfoot belief for a short time but the more I read, the idea that calm explanation will eventually convince at least some folks of the folly of bigfoot grows fainter. The sheer number of paranormal type tv programs like Finding Bigfoot is astonishing and the formulaic nature of all of reality programming seems lost on a great many of our population.

WTF?! :boggled:

Can't make this stuff up. This is sort of like the creationists though in terms of "revealed cleverness" - even if you are brilliant, there is no way to make creationism or bigfoot more than retarded or delusional.

So I guess parnassus called this right and maybe Parcher too.

I feel perhaps I have slighted our four-footed and feathered friends in my attribution of "Bigfoot." I am sure that they didn't make the final cut on the DNA, but they are responsible for a lot of the misidentifications, as they go about their animal bidness: walking around, howling, breaking branches, leaving footprints, splashing in the water, eating, escarewing, pooping, raising young, running across roads, dying, and rotting away. So here they are: bigfoots, just as much as the nuns are.
